FFG seems to be really pushing legion lately!!

By Wayne Argabright, in X-Wing

along those same lines what ever happened to the different damage decks that were supposed to be released in Dec???

Yeah, my FLGS can actually get Legion product. X-Wing? Less so. The owner is of the opinion that X-Wing may be on its way out....

They’re promoting legion because it’s new and they are trying to build up a strong player base for it.

X-Wing is still strong and healthy and is still one of the best selling miniature games in the market. It’s not going away anytime soon.

If your local store is having trouble getting X-Wing stock in then that’s a sign that either 1) the demand for X-Wing products is so high that FFG can’t keep up with everything or 2) the distributor in your area is doing a crappy job, which has been known to happen before. Frequently.

The sky is not falling. There’s no need to panic. So turn off your inner doomsaying C-3P0 and enjoy this awesome game. :)

Well, X-Wing sakes have slowed down a lot in the last 12 months. I think they’re trying to get Legion and Armada to pick up the slack.

Seems possible. However xwing isn’t going anywhere as it still sells. They’re just trying to help pick up some numbers. That’s also why they dropped the points change on several ships that were languishing on shelves to try and get them to move by letting you add more to a list (t65, tie FO).

Does not seem any more "pushed" than usual. I think there has just been an adjustment to the X-wing schedule around the reprint stuff and it has thrown some things off.

I have to admit that Legion has got my attention with the Clone Wars stuff. With the slow down on Armada and for me really just two factions in X-wing the big thing keeping me from Legion is I probably won't get to play it. I have always wanted to build and paint a miniature game army. The modeling aspect of it is very appealing.

I really want my LAAT though.

we got a wave like a month ago and are getting another wave two months from now

what is with these posts?

Just the extra attention going to legion, where they have something like 3 live streams next month.

If you are just into modeling and painting, you may want to do it then. Clone Wars expansions have had more customization options than any other legion box (old minis were glue fit but custom pegs meant it only went in one way). Even the minis without customization options like the phase 1 clones in the core set have all circle pegs, meaning you can have their head facing any direction you like and their blasters as raised or lowered as you like (within confines of what the two arms connected to each other allows).

The sculpting detail on the republic forces is far higher quality than the original Imperial corps units for sure.

This.

I think some of their notions about reprinting 1.0 stuff is becoming less than ideal, and they are back burnering some stuff to get on with the new.

I blame global warming on legion too.

X-Wing has been fairly heavily pushed for over a year. It's Legion's turn to shine for a bit.

I guess this is a good time to admit I bought in to Legion recently. I mean, I bought a lot. Not even clone wars stuff either - original factions. Started making my own terrain. Bought a huge battle map from Europe. Preordered K-2SO and that guy he hangs around with. I mean they’re getting a Neimoidian! What was I supposed to do?

Boba is a real pain in that game too though, so you’re not missing out.

Boba makes Hyperspace a combo wing fest. Only good counter I found so far are ships that don´t have to fly towards him and still get a shot. He is ridicolous in this format

As one whom has been putting my hobby budget into Legion, I can understand the frustration. I still play X-Wing though, albeit only the Republic mostly at this time.

I'd say do it. I repaint all my X-wing stuff but was getting bored. Legion got big and then died locally (but apparently gaining steam again). I picked up an Infininty starter box because A) Metal minis b) was bored painting x-wing minis.... now xwing is slowly becoming my secondary game... ooops

That brings up one of the other thing keeping me from Legion. I keep NOT doing the X-wing re-paints I'd like to do. There are a lot of things demanding my attention and it seems a bad idea to add another to the pile especially with spring approaching and the intent to go outside more. One of the big things begging for attention is creating some proper workspace for painting. I do not need to spend the day in the ergonomic nightmare that is my job to come home to an ergonomic nightmare for hobbies.

I appreciate the encouragement though. It is helping motivate the changes and doing the things that could fulfill my desires in this regard.

yea my x-wing repaints took a back seat for a while. But then I got commissioned to do an RZ2 and found the experience I gained has really allowed me to take my X-wing stuff to the next level.

I dont like any miniatures game where you HAVE to paint the miniatures. with prepainted ones you are at-least guaranteed a certain level of realism/quality.

I don’t know of any games where you HAVE to paint the miniatures. I think every minis game I’ve ever played has had more people with unpainted figs than painted.

Warhammer tournaments often have a requirement that your army is painted (and painted in at least 3 colours so it's not just a spraypaint-and-done)

Nearly every game day i run my HOTAC game, at the guardtower store, there's at least 2, occasionally 3 tables of legion going on. Some of the guys have painted their stuff, and one guy i think is good enough, he needs to put some into a mini art competition.. Most of the rest though, have maybe painted a few key characters..

Infinity does not require painting, but encourages it.

WH/WH40K require 3 colors, as stated above. I think Pelgrane Press has the same requirement for its games.

For tournaments, sure. But that’s a small part of who actually plays. Just the most vocal.
