Why Scenario Pack?

By KimJoshIl, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

I was thinking. Why did FFG decide to call them scenario packs? We have Hero packs, why not villain packs? Did scenario pack just sound better? Or was this by design? Then I started hoping it was by design and down the road we might get scenario packs that really break the mold on the traditional villain with a scheme set up.

How great would a Civil War scenario be that actually pitted the players against each other? Each team could have their own encounter deck and scheme, either Pro or Anti registration. It might push the rules too far to actually be successful, but could be fun if done right.

Has anyone else thought of any fun scenarios that really push the limits on the game design?

I think they're called scenario packs because they're more then just a villain, they're like mini story lines. I think of this game like it's a co op boss battle from a tabletop RPG like D&D... you, or you and your team, have a mission to complete and a big bad to take down. The game is also called "Marvel Champions The Card Game" there is a tabletop RPG called "Marvel Champions" so there maybe some inspiration from that.

One of the designers has got to be in the office kicking the ideas around on how to make Civil War a reality, or how to make the Villains playable.

I've been thinking about how to turn Minions or Nemesis minions into villains and mashing them up with other nemesis or encounter sets to make more generic scenarios. The Wrecking Crew, although somewhat lacking, does really show what design space this game still has to branch out.

Because they contain scenarios, not villains. It gives them full licence to do future products that re-use villains but in different modes, flavours, etc

Ah yes. The Man keeping us down! :P

Yeah I was looking at the cards and seeing how they could battle too.... it's a cool idea, but if they do it I hope its just in one set... I think the main reason why so many new players (new to card battle games in general) love and want to play this game. I think the co op takes away the pressure of competing for most, and since everyone can see everyone's cards its a great way for new players to learn as they play.

Too bad they can't pull a Dice Masters and just take the game rules and put DC heroes (not hating on Marvel, big MCU fan and the comic books) and other fantasy characters from other franchises.

FFG owns the game mechanics license. They can use it however they want for IP’s they own. They got to use Marvel characters with a deal from Marvel. If they wanted to they could talk to DC about using their characters. The game is still new, but highly in demand, so they won’t change anything yet.

Do note that there is another Amalgam (Marvel/DC cross-over) event supposedly coming to the comics again. First one happened in the late 90’s. So maybe we could see DC heros in the game eventually

Oh yes, I know FFG can use the game mechanics for any of their IPs, I haven't played the Lord of The Rings game, but from what I heard Marvel Champions plays just like it with some little differences lol. I meant when it comes to money, I would assume it would cost a lot to get the licence to use DC.. Which makes me wonder how the heck did the Dice Maters team get all those licenses for Marvel, DC, Yu Gi Oh, D&D, Space Hawk, WWE, TMNT lol

Oh nice another crossover event would be bad ***. It might be just what comic books need to stay a float. Where did you hear that rumor?

Would be amazing if they put out a DC champions version down the road. My inner geek rejoices at the thought of cap and batman teaming up.

With FFG's connection to Marvel and Star Wars I think a Disney version of one of their games is more realistic than a DC version
Would I prefer a DC version of Champions: Yes!
Would I buy a Disney version of Champions: Probably yes as well (as I'm too much of a FFG LCG co-op fanboy)

Star Wars seems like the obvious route, with FFG already able to make card games with that license.

But I can't lie, I'd love a Muppets: Champions game, or a Dark Crystal game with similar mechanics.
