Proud Tradition and Pattern Analyzer

By Slade, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Wanted to check if I equip my TIE Silencer with these upgrades am I allowed to take 3 actions if I fully execute a red maneuver?

Assume I dialed in a red K-turn maneuver I would

First take the action form Pattern Analyzer - for example a target lock action.

Second take the Silencer Autothruster ship ability to perform a red boost action and gain 1 stress token

Finish the maneuver to take a 2nd stress token

As a third action Use Proud Tradition to perform a focus action

Yes

Then Muse eats one of those stress, blue maneuver next turn, and you're all set to repeat in turn three. :)

Was also thinking of using it on Static with Muse to take one stress. Once proud tradition flips and focus actions become red you can still exchange a target lock and focus for 2 crits. Shame that the defender can still roll defense thoug.

Does it all work? Sure. But I think I'd probably never do it.

I think Proud Tradition is good on cheaper TIE/fo for three main reasons: they're cheap, they can get by decently without focus actions, and they generally don't mind red focus due to good blues and generally being unstressed. Between Evade, Lock, and just being willing to take a stress, the downside of having Proud flipped to False is fairly minor.

A TIE Silencer, particularly also with Pattern Analyzer, is now up to at least 63 points, really wants a focus token every turn to protect that investment, and while having good blues needs to use Autothrusters fairly frequently, so cannot really handle red focus actions. Having a TIE Silencer flipped from Proud to False seems devastating. One round of a Focus/Lock with a bonus Crack Shot-like effect, at a cost of 7 points and ruling out Fanatical... I can't imagine it'd be worth it in the end.

Seems like it'd probably be solid-enough on Holo, however. Being able to easily and affordably offload the stress seems vital, to prevent having your Tradition flipped.* K-Turn or S-Loop into Lock/Focus or Evade/Focus, with full 3 red 3 green dice.

*Even if someone does flip a Baron's tradition, they're reasonably well able to handle the stress of a red Focus, since they get their bonus action first, and have pretty solid blues.

You are very likely right. I'm currently going through playing all FO pilots in casual lists and wanted to experience how well it works, if at all. Looking at Static though several 'rough' limitations on him but lets see. In those stressfull instances I tend to take Muse as support to handle the stress levels.

The comment made me wonder though. Can I use Proud Tradition if I'm fully executing a white/bleu maneuver, take a lock action and the autothrusters boost/barrel roll for stress and then use the Proud Tradition ability to focus?

Nope, PT doesn't give you an extra action, unlike PA, it just lets you do action in certain case where you couldn't usually, more like Primed Thruster.

Not innately, no. You could Lock -> Autothrusters, and later be coordinated into a Focus action, but @DarthSempai is right that PT doesn't grant an extra action.

All good.

I'm still a fan of keeping things simple in First Order. Static with Proud but not Pattern Analyzer, and just trying to set things up over two turns. Using Proud to be able to lock early, then S-Loop (probably leads to a shorter final range) and Focus might be... well... not worth the points over an Omega, but still get the job done.
