BX Droid Card Leak

By Mokoshkana, in Star Wars: Legion

Wouldn't the sniper teams be set up like the Rebels and Imps. So that would be a different card from this as well. It could have different AI

From the picture leak that came out the day droid commandos were announced, it looks like the strike team also has AI: Dodge, Move too.

It makes sense as a punishment on B1s since they all have coordinate, but the tank, droidekas, B2s and especially commandos don't get any buffs to offset AI. AI dodge move doesn't affect a vibrosword squad that much, but it hoses a sniper squad super hard, especially one without innate pierce or HV.

AI was very obviously thought up and balanced around the vacuum of the core set only. It makes sense and plays well there. When you start slapping it on to everything or introduce it to a world with cheap comm jammers on fast units that can cohere to screw you (tauns)...it becomes very much a garbage NPE mechanic that is pure fluff and hinders gameplay.

What benefit do dekas, B2s, the tank, and commandos get that requires them to have the AI handicap attached to them? Commando snipers would be good without AI, but with it they become a clunky mess. ARC snipers just completely trump them in every way.

Quite agree, the points should be less for these units considering the AI component but alas the game designers only seek balance a year after release of units

I think it's hilarious how everyone online seems to be utterly convinced that either Commando Droids or ARCs are wildly OP compared to the other. I don't think I've even heard one person say they think one is only slightly better than the other; it can only be that X is wildly OP and Y is trash.

The painting of the sniper set me to thinking. Surely the 'scope' on the weapon would be some sort of electronic one rather than old fashioned optical. That being the case, why would a robot need to crouch down and actually put its own optical sensor up to the scope to use it? Surely it could just link to the electronic scope and aim that way :)

Snipers that have to move or dodge is kinda silly.

This isn't the right language, but it is the whole card!

It's totally the right language for a French BX-Droid.

AI: Retreat, Surrender

Dodge and shoot with that defensive profile is pretty alright. If you really want the Aim for Lethal 1, just equip them with Offensive Push and Move then shoot.

It's the one faction where the sniper likely is going to be more effective in the unit instead of the weapons team.

Given the cis really doesn't need a cheap activation unit and the commandos can still be placed on the end of command chains to mitigate ai I'm totally ok with that

It's funny because I totally agree. I'm under the impression that Commandos >>>> ARC troopers atm.

Am I the only one potentially more excited to see what the Dioxis Mine will do for the Saboteur BXs? Just a strike team with that and some Vibroblades seems very interesting with access to Scout 3. Overally I'm interested in 3-4 types of BX units. Obviously the Sniper Strike Team (BORING, but will play if necessary ). Dioxis Mine Saboteur Team with Vibroblades. Full squad with Shields. Full squad with Vibroblades.

Also I'm overall not too concerned with getting orders to the BXs. I'm fine with Move/Dodge as AI especially if I have Vibroblades utilizing the double move/scale/charge combo OR a Deflector Shield squad using Dodge to be that much more annoying to try and take down.

After the (what seems like) limited releases for these 2 factions, is there anyone who can honestly say they don't want 3 of these in each army?

I don't feel like the other factions had to wait quite so long to get special forces and maybe part of it is that all the clones seem the same but but it feels like forever.

This. BXs just seem to have so many builds, I'm sure we will see them in all forms (though one will become most dominant in a competitive environment).

For the cost, I'd rather have these than the Pathfinders. I dont think I've ever had a game where they didn't immediately take 4 wounds, no matter what cover or danger sense they had

They definitely didn't. Han and Rebel Commandos were announced literally two days after the original core set came out, and released 5 months later. Boba Fett and Scout Troopers were only slightly later.

Having Scale means LOSing is MUCH easier with BXs and get into favorable spots without moving around a piece of height 1+ of terrain. Less reliable on cover bonuses and just LOS tactics along with having Impervious red defense dice on top of any cover advantages you can gain.

I am in love with the BXs droids. Cannot wait to field them.

I play gar and see no reason for 3 arcs

Are you sure about that?

Or pass them aim tokens from a B1 that uses Spotter.

Awesome aesthetics? You can’t tell me that three ARC Trooper squads and Rex all flying around isn’t stylish :)

Yeah, impervious and red saves is terrible on sniper teams... who even cares what fives and echo does, I’m sure they’re not worth it.

I've made a chart comparing the snipers in the game. It seems BX are worse than all others unless you give them at least 1 Aim token - and go for Lethal instead of re-rolls (unless the enemy has Deflect or Impervious).

Just double checking doing the math over myself...did you take into account that BXs have natural surge to hit? Was trying the math against no cover Rebel Troopers and I get 1.41 with no Aim.
