Project Luminous unveiled

By Kthonian, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello the High Republic. Not quite the Old Republic, but maybe it'll be something. I won't deny the idea of breaking new ground immediately gave me a lot of story ideas for short campaigns. What do ya'll think?

This is from back when the Republic abandoned the War on Spice and sought to legalize it, right?

So the enemy are called Nihil and the challenge for the writers was ‘what do the Jedi fear?’ With their nemeses named ‘nothing’ it couldn’t be a people immune to the Force could it?

Interested with an open mind. Everything in life is worth exploring.

Dang it, I came here to post this, but was beaten!

This seems like a really cool time period with some fresh, new ideas. Looks like a lot of good reading ahead. I already want to run a game here... away from the Empire, away from the First (and Last) Order, away from the Clone Wars...

This looks like a great playground to work with. I'm impressed with the variety of channels they are using for publishing. It was already a good idea to route the comics through different publishers to target specific audiences. This just expands it.

Hopefully this is the seed of some new TV shows.

If they revisit that theme, I will shut my eyes, plug my ears, and shout "NANANANANA!" as loud as I can. The Jedi aren't gods, like Superman...they have enough problems despite being able to use the Force, the LAST thing the franchise needs is some kind of kryptonite...

I was hopeful to see Claudia Grey in the group, I think her books have been the best among the post-Empire offerings.

I'm super excited by this, and can't wait to run or play in a game set in this era.

It'll be interesting to see if the "nothing" name was chosen for any other reason than that its cool. I seriously hope they don't go the Vong way ... that'd be ... wrong ... gah!

But taking a page from KOTORII - perhaps they have access to some tech or ability that can create voids or null points (or force bleed or whatevz), not preventing for usage or being invulnerable to direct uses of the force, but affecting force usage, sending bad ju-ju into the minds of force users when they open themselves up to use the force - causing, for instance, fear, and bla-bla-blaaah... that could be pretty ****. In every way possible. Not least as a storytelling and plot-device.

But they'll have to have something that challenges the Jedi of that age, and while sheer numbers could be one ... what else? There must be something more than Mad Max-Vikings with Tyranids tactics...

I'm a bit excited. I'm actually interested in reading these books.

I gotta say... Star Wars doing a story where the enemy can’t be pleased and only seems to be happy tearing things down is deliciously meta.

I like the idea of focusing on this era. They aren't stepping on the toes of any material from the EU, so it gives us a lot of freedom to incorporate the material into our headcanons.

after seeing what was on the white board I have little hope this will have anything good and not just F with what already is out there

I too was wowed (and not in a positive way) by that white board; it appeared to have been put together by a room full of high school girls from a cheesy, early 2000s rom-com.

I am Jack's Complete Lack of Giving a ****.

Looks very ambitious but I'm in! I'm a little surprised it isn't set further back in the timeline but a lot can happen in 200 years. I mean, that is still 150 before Baby Yoda is born ;)

For the record, having done promo vids like this before for projects at my studio, it's heavily staged. That white board was probably done solely for the video and not what is actually going on. And it's usually cheesy stuff in these, anyway.

But, also Star Wars is cheesy.

When Diversity is before Ending and Characters, something is wrong with the storytelling.

"Here's the Old Republic!!!"

under breath "Just not as old as you maybe would've liked" cough

Joking aside, looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Diversity before Actual ending and relatable characters. Not pro-war. University. Dinosaurs!(No really, it has an exclamation mark) Representation/diversity. Arthanian legends. Rival Houses. Sith Empire.

You can pause at 1:24, it's clear.

That doesn't appear to be a priority list. It looks like a brain storming session.

I don't think the order matters.

Frankly, I don't even think ANY of the keywords on that whiteboard really matter. It's just things the people throw around in the room to get creative juices flowing.

But...this is Star Wars under Disney. We absolutely must be outraged about how badly it’s being mishandled months before the stories’ release.

Isn't that how it works now?
