Well according to the blurb about it. Catch the interview with Sam Stewart!
[Podcast] One Xenos Revealed by Stewart on D6 Generation!
This is the best news I've heard all day. I wasn't expecting it, but I certainly won't look a gift squig in the mouth.
For those of us whose bosses are not that understanding about listening to an hour-long podcast at work... what is the race?
No idea. My boss isn't very understanding either
Hence, the disclaimer about the blurb stating that a race is revealed.
Same here - waiting for someone who's off work and can inlighten us all.
The anticipation's killing me!
I am listening to the podcast now and taking notes. I'll post some highlights as soon as I finish.
it's an ork freebooter...full career.
the other xenos career - though not detailed or revealed - is said to be well-known and a large part of the WH40k canon...so as one of the interviewers joked "it won't be 'space skaven'" ![]()
the discussion takes place about 45-50% of the way into the podcast (i can't tell because of my stupid windows media player).
oh! and the ork career can get squig pets and stuff as sort of utility pets...

Eldar Corsair. As late Cuu would said, sure for sute. ![]()
Okay, here we go:
Vehicle rules were talked about. Here's some of the most significant info:
-The rules are entirely new. They are not based on the Apocrypha.
-They were developed with the original manuscript of RT with the intention of being integratable with the existing combat rules.
-They do include aircraft and dogfighting rules, both atmospheric and voidcraft, but not for participating in starship scale battles.
-The rules will include stats for:
-Rhino
-Calixis pattern Fury Interceptor
-Hephaestus Ore-Seeker. A sandcrawler-sized treaded vehicle with lots of drills on it.
Alternate Careers:
-There are, though he said he might have miscounted, 14 alternate careers.
-Some are career specific, others are general.
-One alternate career: Seneschal, Rank 3, Acquisitionist
-One general one, high level, called Legend of the Expanse
Starships:
-New rules are includes.
-New components and hulls.
-No new ordinance or torpedo rules.
-Strongly hinted at a forthcoming dedicated starship sourcebook.
Endeavors:
-New rules, allowing a different and more flexible take on endeavors.
-Emphasizes the fact that the RT has resources beyond the ship they personally command.
AND FINALLY, THE XENOS CAREER:
-Ork Freebooter!!!
-It's an entire career, not an alternate rank.
-It has its own origin path.
-As it advances, it can get bigger, and also has the option to get gretchin and squigs.
-More Ork equipment is provided in the book.
There ya go, guys.

One of mine; I really enjoyed writing that one.

Mine, and I even got a shout-out in the podcast! I'm really looking forward to you guys getting to look at the Freebooter; it was an absolute blast to create, and involved many, many hours of research.
Strictly speaking, it's not an origin path - there are equivalent options, but it's not a full origin path.
So much for "No Rogue Trader will ever make a deal with an Ork!".
*sniffle* I really hoped for Kroot... already trained bird-squawk-y voice... well, maybe another time. By the way: Were any homebrew stats published for them?
Oh well, Orks are fine too. I wonder if there will be rules for their make-belief-tech in general... and congratulations, N0-1!
Second career has Eldar Corsair written all over it indeed
I agree, N0-1 deserves credit. (
)
Anyway, bad pun aside, I am in basicly the same boat as Cifer, but I still look forward to seeing what the Ork PCs get. At the very least it'll make for good creation of fleshed out NPCs and rivial Rogue Traders... er... Freebooter Captains. Who knows, maybe after reading N0-1's work i'll be converted to the greenskin cause.

Well, they're a bargain to hire - how many other mercenaries will accept payment in guns, ammo and explosives?

Kroot.
(I play a kroot merc. army in 40k, can you tell?)
I am just excited that the orks will spore on the ship and can gain squigs and gretchin because of it.
I find it amusing that people automatically think that "well known" xenos (for the second race) is definately one race and no other. Not saying if you're right or wrong, just that you should wait and see before setting your heart on any specific race.
But yea, I think you guys are gonna enjoy da Orky boyz. They're quite something, and one of the things I focused on when I playtested, as well as the other xenos, because I knew you guys would only want the best.

They're Xenos of simple tastes. They like guns, ammo and explosives (and perhaps gunpowder, dynamite and gasoline...). And do you know what they have in common?
(Well, perhaps not power swords and force fields...)
'Gratz N0-1. I suspected that you'd done something orkoid since you let slip you'd written xenos for FFG a while back. I must say, I'm looking forward to actually reading the finished work, especially since I've long considered your Something Other Than Human part of the official core for DH (or, at least, on a par with those origins presented in the IH).
I'm also looking forward to Small Craft rules (even if they aren't meant for Ship-to-Ship combat). As an IN fan, I'm strongly in favour of the Furies- all we need are Marauder/Starhawks and torpedoes and I can have the Macharius come to visit...

Yea, I spent a few times on MSN with N0-1 discussing the Ork stuff, giving him suggestions after things cropping up in playtesting, and he was always willing to listen and take constructive advice. I think the Orks were/are in very safe hands with him. I'm not sure anyone could have done a good a job of them as he has.
As much as I'm enjoying the praise, there's a hell of a lot of material in Into the Storm, with the Ork material making up only a third of my contribution (which in turn is only a sixth of the book)... the rest of the book is amazing, and people should not use the presence or absence of particular playable Xenos species as the sole focus of their judgement. It'd be like considering The Inquisitor's Handbook solely on the basis of the Adepta Sororitas career path...

Of course, the rest of the book is awesome. I can't wait to see the finished article myself. I just though that credit should be given where credit is due. I'll say the same about the other bits I liked when they're announced or when the book is, whichever comes first.
so **** excited for this new book. this is my first post on a forum ever haha.

Now either you're trying to give us a hint that the second xenos isn't Eldar or you're messing with our heads. Both would make me sad.

I'm not giving hints for anything, not allowed to. I just meant what I said, I thought it was amusing that lots of people seem to think there could be only one possible "well known" xenos, when there are lots of races in the 40k universe that are pretty well known.
Well, when I put "well-known", "large part of the 40k canon" and "possible contact for a Rogue Trader" together, I arrive at Eldar. What other races are there? Tau are at the other end of the galaxy. Orks are already included. Jokaero aren't exactly a large part of the canon. Kroot aren't either (at least I don't think they'd be considered such, though I'd be pleased to be proven wrong). That leaves me with the Eldar, the Necrons and the 'nids. Finding one of the latter two in the publication would be... surprising. The rest of the 40k universe just isn't exactly friendly towards the human race, so the number of its potential allies are rather limited.
Regardless of whether it is the actual second career, which other Xeno races would you consider possible by that description, Millandson?
