How do you play on running the Saber Tank?

Wow, that is some chutzpah. It is okay to admit you made a mistake.

It wasn't a mistake. I'm fully aware that people can bring extremely high activation lists, but at some point, you do need some quality over quantity. We don't see 15 activation rebel lists running around do we? That's because the community has found that lists around 10-11 activation are the most competitive for Rebels and Empire.

The same thing goes for GAR. We've found that the most optimized Republic lists run 8-9 activations. Anything more means you're sacrificing quality for quantity (atleast prior to the recent releases).

All because you can, doesn't mean you should...

Again you can explain after the fact all you want, but you said 9 was the limit. You did not say "9 activations is the limit for a competitive list" which is what you are now trying to say was inferred.

Sigh. Time to add to my ignore list.

Someone's feelings were hurt. 😂

The ignore list just prevents me from direct messaging you, but you can still see my posts and I can still comment on yours.

Trust me, I won't be messaging you.

Ignore also hides posts, reactions, and doesn't notify on responses. It doesn't just block direct messages.

Wow, someone managed to get on my ignore list the first day back after being away from this nonsense for months. Congrats!

Woah, I never knew that! But it doesn't work both ways I assume? Because I can still read their posts aswell.

Edit: I've never felt so emotionally disturbed by a forum post to ignore someone. I wouldn't know.

As I stated in previous posts, somethings don't need to be explained.

I can't help you.

Clearly you cannot help yourself either. Best of luck going forward.

No idea. But the point is for you not to see the ignored individual's correspondence, so it doesn't really matter what the ignored person does or does not see.

It is useful for people who ignore evidence, move goalposts, engage in troll like behaviours frequently, and are otherwise more interested in "arguing" than actual discourse. I've used it once or twice on other FFG forums.

I see. I’m pretty sure it is one-sided which is best for both sides.

I don’t want to miss out on some new tactic or spoiled release.

If I was playing Republic, I'd run R2D2 w/ C3PO behind the Saber. Not sure of the exact loadout of the Saber, but repair droid sure helps.

This is what I'm thinking. R2 significantly increases the survivablility of the Saber. Unsure if C3P0 is worth it or not.

Do you plan on leaving the tank somewhat stationary? With R2's speed 1 how does he keep up with the tank?

The tank can shoot at Range 4, so... yes?

Ok. Just curious.

Remember that you don't have to use the speed-2 tool when moving and you don't have to travel the entire length of the maneuver tool either. This isn't X-Wing so performing a standard move doesn't require you make it to the end of the tool.

I plan on moving the tank forward and then shooting every turn. R2 can just move move which allows him to keep up with the tank. Alternatively, I could just sit in the back and shoot at range 4 like others suggested, but I want to try and complete R2s secret mission.

You're being incredibly optimistic. I'm more realistic .

I don't think we will see much of the beam since it takes advantage of a weak positioning opponent. At a high level, I don't think players will allow you gain full advantage of the beam.

I'm just following the analytics. Right now, low activation lists aren't effective in a competitive environment. This is a fact.

Maybe, the Sabertank let's low activation lists finally viable? Who knows, but history has shown that 10 activations are the sweet spot.

Right now the most activations GAR has been able to field is 9. With ARC strike teams they can increase that number to 10-11. I think 9 will be the sweet spot for GAR and they will just have to play the game down an activation.

Makes a thread asking how people plan to use a model then bashes other people's ideas. Could be why you aggravate some on these forums.

R2's Repair is a action. He can't move twice and repair.

I’m very polarizing because I’m blunt with my opinion, I don’t sugar coat my words to make people feel “good”. This is a tough pill to swallow for some forum users or snowflakes.

The comment you are referring to was my reply to someone claiming that the Saber tank will delete a unit a turn with the beam weapon. I have trouble believing this (though this is speculation. I won’t get a game in with the tank until the AAT comes out).

I feel like the beam weapon would be one of the first upgrades I cut (for cheaper alternatives) to shuffle point elsewhere, but that’s just me.

Yea I know. I was referring to using him in the early turns. Once the Saber tank gets damaged, then my plans change.

The quote was merely an example instead of mashing multiple ones together, I admit I was being lazy in making my point. I agree your bluntness does affect people including myself at times. You come off as arrogant and the only "expert" with your opinions....but not all your posts are that way. Letting you know starting a thread like this and answering people's attempts at helping you in a blunt manner will not get you answers that you wish as people will just tune out and not offer any novel ideas as they are likely to be shot down as harshly

I wouldn't term some of your posts as "blunt" but rather "rude." You actively include insulting language or derogatory terms in your clarification posts as opposed to just not apologizing. For instance, your last sentence I quoted above could have easily ended after "other forum users" and the meaning would have been similar, just without an implied insult.

If you aren't clear on your post, and someone misunderstands, the fault lies with you for communicating poorly in my opinion, not the other user(s) for failing to read your mind.

But if he just move move moves than he doesn't have actions for Repair, Calculate Odds, etc. What's the point?

This is a good point, I'll have to tone myself down a bit. My goal is to generate discussion and not to dissuade people by sounding arrogant.

I do troll a bit, so there's that! And hopefully, by now you can tell when I'm trolling and not. 😉

I do agree that it's important to be clear and concise. I sometimes forget that people come into this game at different stages and levels. Not everyone plays the same way that I do (I've been playing wargames with the same group of guys for almost 12 years now and a competitive level [OR at least we think we are competitive]). Maybe they're new? Or maybe they're casual? I'll have to make sure I'm more concise in my points moving forward.

Ok. Back to the topic...

I figured the first turn, the Saber tank is unlikely to take much damage (though this could drastically change based on the amount of AV people include). It will move up in position. Turns 2-6 will depend on board positioning, objective, etc. I like taking R2 in Saber lists because he effectively increases the HP by 44%, he's cheap, AND he's an extra activation. Maybe some games, you can pull off the secret mission. I'm unsure if C3P0 is worth it.
