Question about The Foundry

By DangerShine Designs, in Genesys

hey all -

I have been building my own RPG for the last year or so using my own mechanics and system, largely as the Narrative Dice rules weren't OGL but am I right in thinking that the Foundry allows me to use the Genesys rules as a backbone for the proprietary setting and I can then essentially publish my own game and supplements under the Genesys banner via DriveThruRPG?

And if I do that, does my IP now below to FFG?

thanks in advance!

The IP is supposed to remain yours.

The legalese is in a document in the Foundry, free to download.

Pretty much, yes. Check out the content guidelines for more info.

Nope. Per their FAQ :

If I did a setting book for an original IP, and then wanted to go ahead and do a conversion of it for another RPG system and sell that, would I wholly own it and be able to go make money on that?

It's your IP to do what you want with it. You can’t market the Genesys product elsewhere, though, but if you want to do a version for your setting for another system that’s up to you.

I would suggest reading up on the legalities yourself so you are familiar with what is and is not allowed. I don't think that anyone on this forum is an IP lawyer, so take any advice we give with a grain of salt.

Whatever you publish has to use the Genesys rules system. So, you can't just make up your own RPG and slap the Foundry label on it to get it published. The Foundry is for Genesys products. But, if you use the Genesys core rulebook, but have some "house rules" or new rules to add to the base system, I'm assuming that's fine.

Making your own setting to be used with Genesys Core or adding new rules supplements seems to be what they want. And, they specifically say it remains yours legally.
