Crafting Attachments

By P-47 Thunderbolt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've had this percolating in my mind for a while, and I finally got around to doing it.

The main difficulty with crafting Attachments is that they are often extremely specialized, and do things like add a general purpose scanner, or give penalties like expenditure for Despair/Threat that are hard to actually fit into crafting.

Rather than just having generic Attachments to build upon (something I do plan on adding), I figured I'd take the statted attachments and trim them down for crafting. So Price/Rarity reduction, dropping mod options, adding Advantage, Triumph, Threat, and Despair tables, adding difficulties and timings.

It's still a work in progress, but I wanted some feedback. The spreadsheet includes a bunch of other crafting tables because I want to add my own custom ones (I've done a little bit of that already), but the Attachments are all at the back. I've only finished with the Ranged Weapon attachments, but what do you think?

As for balancing concerns, individual concerns for specific things (i.e. Make Vicious 3a instead of 2a) is fine, but I don't care about the general "crafting is overpowered" worries.

the main worry I see is prices seem low

BTW I have to ask in most games what are players getting on checks? in my game I get 6 or more advantages to spend most of the time (max I had was 11) is this uncommon?

For most crafting, the cost is about half the cost of the item. That is the metric I generally use for the Attachments, with occasional exceptions.

Yes. For my players, typically hovers around 3-5, with the exception of a Gadgeteer rolling YYYYG (4-6), but she has no crafting talents to add Advantage (she does get +1 Advatnage from tools though).

Ahh see one I do all the crafting (but for lightsabers it seems to be a deal everyone makes it for themselves) I have about 1.5 crafting trees

thou crafting tools seems to be a big way of getting better earlier for the player as they have nice upgrades for tools with a good roll

The crafting I see, the player usually makes several tries. If one attempt doesn’t generate enough Advantages or Success or Triumphs, then they just take what they can to improve the next roll and then go again.

When you’ve got Intellect 7 and maxed out skill, plus a workshop that allows you to use multiple tools, and lots of custom tools that all add one or more boost or automatic Advantage, it can all get pretty silly pretty quickly. Dozens of dice can be thrown.

funny thing at lest in my group I use crafting as a way for my char to keep doing something

they don't like not having something to do and unlike the jedi of the group (aka most of the group see themselves as such) the idea is wrong to them

its become a joke that they now pick up scrap and the like so the group doesn't lose a 2ed speeder or another droid (even thou the ones I made are better at lest in the char mind )

Some groups will hand-wave the time factor. I don’t see that in the group I’m in.

If anything, for us, time is the most precious commodity, and the thing most closely tracked.

At least, that’s the way it feels so far.
