First rebel beef

By Watcher42, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I really like the B wing yet have never really tried rebel beef and was wondering how well people think this list will work?

Braylen Stramm (52)
Autoblasters (3)
Stabilized S-Foils (2)

Ship total: 57 Half Points: 29 Threshold: 4

Blade Squadron Veteran (42)
Fire-Control System (2)
Autoblasters (3)
Stabilized S-Foils (2)

Ship total: 49 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 4

"Dutch" Vander (40)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Ship total: 45 Half Points: 23 Threshold: 4

Garven Dreis (X-Wing) (47)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Ship total: 47 Half Points: 24 Threshold: 3

Total: 198

Hey - first thoughts:

  • Braylen doesn't benefit as much from s-foils as Ten does (because Braylen is typically doing focus->barrel role to proc his ability and get double mods)
  • Having Dutch there to pass locks to the B-wings is cool and synergizes well with s-foils (FCS on the Blade Squadron Vet is also a neat choice there)
  • Ten's cool, and if you can get him that's all I4s
  • Marksmanship is a cheap upgrade that goes neatly with Autoblasters if you can get the auto-crits.

Taking all that - how about:

Braylen Stramm (52)
Marksmanship (1)
Autoblasters (3)

Ship total: 56 Half Points: 28 Threshold: 4

Ten Numb (48)
Marksmanship (1)
Autoblasters (3)
Stabilized S-Foils (2)

Ship total: 54 Half Points: 27 Threshold: 4

Garven Dreis (X-Wing) (47)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Ship total: 47 Half Points: 24 Threshold: 3

"Dutch" Vander (40)
Dorsal Turret (3)

Ship total: 43 Half Points: 22 Threshold: 4

Total: 200

Unfortunately I'm trying to keep it hyperspace so having Marksmanship is impossible.

The idea was for the lock to be passed onto braylen not the generic so he could focus roll as per normal, and the generic would lock then hopefully get the focus from garven

I would have ten as well but it would mean dropping the ion cannon from duch

Ten could have FCS and you could keep S-Foils on Braylen for the double shot (shame there's no dorsal in hyperspace.) Be interesting to see which works better - I'd be tempted by all the I4s but give it a go and let us know how you get on!

Braylen with B-Foils and Autoblasters is absolutely amazing. He can reroll on both attacks and has a Focus in case he needs it. When it comes to B-Wing double tap, no one is better than Braylen. Due to Ten spending stress like a focus, I would say he is better off as a Torpedo carrier, having Lock and Stress each turn and potential access to Reload.

To the OP, I am flying something similar, although I substitute your generic B-Wing with Jake Farrell with Outmaneuver. The spare points I get from that are spent on Torpedoes for Dutch, although going with an Ion Turret and Proton Bombs is also a very good option. One thing I would change, is find a place for R3 on Dutch. He wants to usually shoot last and by the time he does, the target might be dead.

Absolutely. Just want to second this

Rebel Beef Hyperspace:

  1. Garven Dreis: X-Foils (47 points total)
  2. "Dutch" Vander: R3 Astromech, Proton Torpedoes (56 points total)
  3. Jake Farrell: Outmaneuver (42 points total)
  4. Ten Numb: Fire-Control System, Autoblasters, B-Foils (55 points total)

Or...

  1. Garven Dreis: X-Foils, Selfless (50 points total)
  2. "Dutch" Vadner: R3 Astromech, Ion Cannon Turret, Proton Bombs (53 points total)
  3. Jake Farrell: Outmaneuver (42 points total)
  4. Ten Numb: Fire-Control System, Autoblasters, B-Foils (55 points total)

An alternative would be to outfit Jake with Concussion Missiles or perhaps Homing Missiles. Nothing worse than a Vader or Obi-Wan escaping with 1 HP. An interesting gimmick is to throw Ion Missiles on Jake and slap him with Daredevil. A 1 Hard turn followed with another 1 Hard turn and a Lock from "Dutch" can be extremely deadly, when you have a set up followup barrage on the next round. A good alternative is Arvel Crynyd with Intimiation and Daredevil, costing only 39 points instead of the Jake's 42. Those three points can gointo many places. Seismic Charges, Selfless are both decent picks.

If you would like to expand the list into Extended, then here is my proposition for milking the most out of it.

Rebel Beef Extended:

  1. Garven Dreis: X-Foils, Predator (49 points total)
  2. "Dutch" Vander: R3 Astromech, Proton Torpedoes (56 points total)
  3. Jake farrell: Daredevil, Predator (40 points total)
  4. Ten Numb: B-Foils, Fire-Control System, Jamming Beam, Autoblasters (55 points total)

If you fly it right, every ship has potential double mods, although "Dutch" will sometimes rely on Garven to get the Focus. Jake and Ten are the best at giving themselves double mods. Garven with Predator can also provide double mods for himself, although without reposition actions its a tad more difficult.

You can also fit this...

  1. Arvel Crynyd: Intmidation, Predator/Daredevil (39 points total)
  2. "Dutch" Vander: Dorsal Turret, R3 Astromech, Seismic Charges (49 points total)
  3. Ten Numb: Fire-Control System, Jamming Beam, Autoblasters, B-Foils (55 points total)
  4. Braylen Stramm: Jamming Beam, Autoblasters, B-Foils (57 points total)

Braylen can Focus into Red Roll and get Lock from "Dutch" to enable his deadly double tap. Ten does his Roll > Red Lock. Arvel is an annoying blocker. "Dutch" gets demoted to a full support ship. With how unwieldy a Y-Wing is, that Dorsal Turret works splendid on it.

Jumping in here too, B-Foil Braylen is a beast and having Dutch there doubles down the value because you can pass those locks over even if you think Braylen is going to bump (in which case you just dial in a red so you still get the stress for his mods, or if you were already stressed then the 2 white forward the move defaults to allows you to stay stressed.)

I do think I'd prefer some damage spreading to keep the double taps going as long as possible, would test something like this for Hyperspace:

Braylen Stramm (52)
Autoblasters (3)
Stabilized S-Foils (2)

"Dutch" Vander (40)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R4 Astromech (2)

Blade Squadron Veteran (42)
Selfless (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)

Blade Squadron Veteran (42)
Selfless (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)

Total: 200

(Can sub in Garven in an X-Wing easily enough if you don't have 3x B-Wings, he's 1 cheaper at 47 so Dutch's astromech can be upgraded to R3.)
