X-Wings: Why am I so bad at them?

As a Resistance player, I fly almost exclusively T-70s

If you're looking for good lists that include T70s, I'll put in a plug for my current favorite list: Cova w/Leia, Jess, Bastian and either a Red Squadron Export Expert or Kaz. I made the cut at LVO with the Red version, @Flurpy ran the Kaz version into the cut at UK System Open. Solid list that's great fun to fly IMO.

Lots of great discussion of this and other T70 lists in this thread:

Jess with a droid for charges and three Red Expert T-70s with Heroic is a solid list and has points leftover to season it to taste. Set up a box formation in the center of your side of the board, but be mindful of obstacles in your path.

Head towards the middle of the board and pick a target and use the board edge to try and trap them.

When one of your T-70s gets some hull damage use it to block or, if you have the higher initiative, disengage with it and try to come back around on a flank.

Four hull and three shields behind two agility with Heroic(or Jess' ability) makes for some pretty durable ships. Three dice guns with a Focus(and Jess' rerolls) make for some solid offense. They seem a little boring at first glance, but when you take into account their native boost action and the closed side of the S-Foils card they really have a lot of flexibility in movement and once you break formation they can actually be a very dynamic squad.

So how does that feel compared to 5x? Same idea, different execution.

It was definitely different, and felt actually distinct from my T-70s. I'm really tempted to drop the attack shuttle for named Bs that have S-Foils and cannons, but I tried a permutation of that and it didn't really do too well. Still, Autoblaster+Ion might be worth trying. ****, jam+other cannons might actually be pretty valid...

See here's the thing about flying Rebel. Flying the same stuff The Resistance tends to have, doesn't terribly interest me. I'll probably change that tune once Resistance Y-Wings and B-Wings come around, but you know what? I'm going to admit a problem I have with resistance.

A lot of their options are too expensive.

But on the flipside there's almost no more distilled and safe Star Wars than Rebel of Imperial Squads, so it just kinda' pushes me away from them. You've gotta' understand, being the kind of person I am I always try to like... Move away from convention.

And for that reason, the Y-Wings and B-Wings of The Rebellion are genuinely interesting to me, where I may prefer to stick to The Resistance's X-Wings. Undecided on A-Wings. Gods, I cannot stand flying 5As...

Still. I may yet purchase a handful of B-Wings, Blail. They fly interestingly, they look fun to paint and they have good value in just about any rebel squad, naked. That is something The Resistance has trouble saying. Rebel fighters without any mods tend to be really just, good. But maybe I'm just loopy.

They are, Resistance ships generally have a built in chassis+upgrade cost. (Its lower than a chassis with the option of adding mods like hull).

I was just pointing this out as an option to try or proxy because it might illuminate the differences in Xwings and Bwings and where you might be making mistakes as a learning tool. Not that you need to actually fly 4B-AS
It'll also show if your problem is with I2 5 swarm and blocking flight style (meaning you need more practice with swarm play and blocking), or if your trouble is with Xwings as Xwings (flight pattern and or something else).

Thanks for the suggestions, Blail. I'm finding atypical rebel options to be very fun and interesting to fly. That, and putting 32+ health on the board is always pretty scary.
