The Box Adventure

*Potential Spoilers for Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 4: Episode 17*

(Come on, who hasn't seen it?)

So, I have a couple questions in the hopes of making an modular encounter/adventure. In my rewatching of TCW in prep for the final season, I have come across The Box, the constantly changing structure to test the team of bounty hunters that will kidnap Chancellor Palpatine.

So:

1. Should the Box remain as it is as seen in the show where someone has control over it or should it be set on a timer according to a clock/number of rolls/number of rounds?

2. If The Box is constructed into more of a maze, would you use Survival or Perception (or both) for someone to find their way through it if you dont actually draw the map out?

3. Does anyone have any ideas for encounters within the Box outside of the ones already presented in TCW?

4. Does anyone else get Alien vs Predator movie pyramid vibes from this structure? Thoughts on reskinning it more along those lines and make it more ancient feeling?

Depends how much you as a GM want to mess with your players. If someone(/you) has control over it, then you have UNLIMITED... POWAAHHH!!!!!! in the situation, but if it is the latter, then use of DPs by GM and Players to manipulate the surroundings adds another level. Alternatively, for something like the lightsaber/stair/parkour thing, use a force die like the rules for Sabaac, with 2 light giving a benefit, 1 light maintaining a good status quo, 1 dark maintaining a negative status quo, and 2 dark doing something bad.

You'll definitely have to make use of Difficult/Impassable Terrain.

Survival is, I believe, what is generally used for navigation in that situation (I have plans to do something similar, and am planning for it to require Survival). I use Streetwise or Survival as the planetary version of Astrogation, depending on the environment (Streetwise=city, Survival=country).

I'll get back to you on that one (or I might not :P ).

No, because I have not seen that movie. However, having it as the entrance to an ancient, impenetrable vault, and run by a sadistic machine, makes for an interesting "Indiana Croft and the Search for the Holy McGuffin: Star Wars Edition!" adventure.

  1. I'd say that really depends on the on the setting. If the box is a rlic of the past the party is raiding, I'd make it automated. If it's an actual test like in the show, have it controlled (maybe the control has a score to settle as well).
  2. I usually use survival for getting through mazes, tunnels etc, however maybe the players could use perception to look for clues or signs to avoid dead ends etc.
  3. Endless enemies with a puzzle lock to get out of the room. Add 5-10 (depending on strength) each round, and if the players don't work together to cover each other and sort the lock they end up pretty knackered.
  • Investigate a pre-made murder scene or something like that and must figure out what happened, testing bounty hunters intelligence and rationale.
  • Long climb up with something following to try and catch them, if they're too slow they get caught.
  • Room with seriously overpowered creature where the players have to collect items to get out using stealth and cunning.
  • Teamwork challenge where players have to activate and deactivate traps to let others through, but if they mess up the other gets crushed/stabbed etc (think portal 2).

4. It could definitely work in that manner, alternatively you could go the other way and make it a big sporting arena style event on Nal-Hutta or something, bloodthirsty crowds and such going to watch.
