Advice on Droid list

By VermillionDe, in Army Building

So I'm building everything from my two starter sets I split with a friend, and we're getting close to our first game. We more or less have two starters, the alt commander for droids and republic (dooku and rex) and the support troopers for our respective faction.

My friend is going to field rex, obi, 4 buckethead squads and a BARC. My list is dooku, greivous, 4 B1 squads and droidekas.

However, when I look at the lists together I'm concerned about bringing as many toasters as he has boy bands. It seems like he'd have the advantage in that case. I'm considering dropping greivous for another set of droidekas and more roger-bois. Anyone with some seperatist experience care to weigh in?

Heres my list in a little more detail, still working in it:

A few things to note the first time I was building lists:

Aggressive tactics requires the person it is on to be issuing the orders, I see you don’t have any of Grievous's command cards in your list so every time you use Dooku to issue orders your aggressive tactics won't work. This also makes you seriously consider which out of Dooku and Grievous is the commander in your list and who is effectively an expensive operative.

Electrobinoculars are expensive to use on a unit with the heavy and the extra trooper, I'd probably drop the binoculars and spend the points elsewhere.

When you say you have the Support troopers for your faction do you mean the trooper upgrade packs? If so I would definitely look at putting some of the 5s heavy's into your squads from those sets, Critical 1 is very good for the droids.

I would suggest getting strict orders in the list if you can, you may not have the card yet but it just means you keep all your suppression quite low for the game so you don’t have to worry too much about panicking with your squads.

Lastly my own personal opinion is that the Droideka's are horribly overcosted for how quickly they die, replace them with more B1 squads if you can as it also gives you pretty much 100% activation control if you get all your droids co-ordinating every turn you know your random stack is always your 2 commanders if they don’t already have an order.

Thanks for a thoughtful response. I'm still digesting a lot of the information but there are some great immediate takeaways. I'm glad to hear that the sniper is a good take, I thought the math was good but I haven't been on the table yet and you never know. Shame I only have 1.

I'm really sorry to hear about droidekas, they're some if my favorite droids. However, I can see your point. It's too bad we dont have more variation in the seperatist units.

Dekas are quite durable behind heavy cover, have a good dice pool and can be excellent pieces while playing key positions, and breakthrough. Their wheel mode let's you get to the appropriate scoring spot quickly. Surge on defense is not to be discounted, even on white dice.

Also you can still have perfect activation control if you include a deka.

If you wanted to include a deka this works just fine:

•Count Dooku [225 Points]: Aggressive Tactics, Force Push

•General Grievous [192 Points]: Strict Orders, •DT-57 "Annihilator"
