Discussion: Dreadnought

By Naboobo2000, in Star Wars: Armada

I think anything more than 7 hull would be way too much. I get the point about old tech but even so, I don’t think the hull value is just representative of armour only, it’s also size & presumably quality of the space frame in general.

With that in mind (& other old tech - VSD, Arqs etc) is still say 6 hull at the most. And weak shields. Priced accordingly.

Lets also not forget, if in canon, these ships were relatively decent warships, it’s entirely possible the Empire tore out some of the guns, maybe even removed some of the armour etc to save costs or refit to the support role it now fills.

I could see a Dreadnaught Cruiser and a Dreadnaught Cruiser Imperial Refit. Perhaps they have vastly different costs and statistics... one representing a cheap but rather outdated hoopty, the other representing a modernized role-player of a warship.

I don’t think the Empire needs another 100-point ship. They need something that clocks in around 80 points AFTER a couple of upgrades. Something that can broadside, and hopefully go speed 3. Just one man’s opinion.

What if it had 12 hp but no shields? Or even just 1 shield per side but no redirects.

I’m not sure that a 10 hull medium would be so bad.

Quasar is 13 HP

VSD is 18 HP

AFmk2 is 18

So a dreadnought with 10 hull and 2/1/1 shields would be in between the quasar and VSD. Give it something like Brace/Contain/Contain or Brace/Salvo/Contain

All I can say is if it looks like that , it will be a “Pass” for me. 😉

C'mon it isn't that bad. It just needs to be quite a bit pointier and get some angular struts on the bridge window and we are fine. 😉

Initially I thought the idea of high hull, low shields was a quite a good one.

However, it means that as soon as you plink through the token one shield on the broadside, you're enabling crits. Yes, contain tokens will mitigate this (unless accs), but thematically a ship where as soon as you take a moderate hit , people start running around panicking/bridge panels blow up/steam hisses from engine rooms/parts start to fall off, doesn't seem like much of a warship.

I mean, this ain't Star Trek.

;P

It's an older but tough ship. Give it 8 hull with 2 shields all around. It's going to be slow with speed 2 and 3 command with the high crew compliment or automations that helped doom the Katana fleet.

Do we know how big the ISV is officially? It looked kinda small in rebels from what I remember.

Nothing in Canon sources, however, IIRC, Legends information still applies to Canon ships, as long as it doesn't conflict with Canon. Which means the ISV is 600 meters long, according to wookieepedia.

Although the Canon version might have scrapped all the existing backstory, keeping only the design somewhat intact.

The more I think about this, this ship seems ideal for a dual faction ship. Keep it as an ISV for the empire & the rebels get some sort of combat vessel.

This gives completely different play styles that could keep things interesting if 2 meet in battle.

You could actually make it tri-faction for the Republic as well when CW stuff comes out. 😁

Nooooooooooo - please no dual/triple faction ship!! And the more I see it, the more I think it‘s one of the lamest, most boring designs ever 🤐

Fair enough. Can I ask what would be the problem with a dual faction ship? Particularly if the faction designs were markedly different.

You mean miniature of the ship itself is different for every faction?!

I don‘t know - I think I like the fact that every faction has its own look and feel and a dual faction ship would blurr the lines...

No not the physical model, I meant the class/cards.

And yes as mentioned I would only support the idea if the classes were different. I don’t want exactly the same ship for both sides.

It has to be one of the most lazy, boring designs. Why do people want this floating rectangle?

The dreadnought I like is the one with the rounded front that was in Star Wars Supremacy. I don't know when the boxy version appeared but it's not a look that I was ever a fan of.

The basis of the Imperial might is the triangle. However putting 2 triangles together you can double your strength, getting a rectangle. Putting infinite triangles together and you get the ultimate Imperial form - the circle, hence the Death Star. It's simple logic.

Dreadnaughts, Carracks, Lancers, Corelian Gunships, Escort carriers, Assault Frigates (not the ugly one the game has) ...much of the important stuff (for me) is missing but at least there are Victory class SDs :D

The VSD is, to be fair, the laziest non-design anyone ever had for a Star Wars ship (“I know, it’s an ISD, but with an antenna! And smaller!”).

And why do people think the AFMkII is ugly? She’s like a beautiful grinning space whale that wants to eat your Imperial pizza slices. She is gorgeous. Her design is unique and authentic and honest, the opposite of ostentatious. She is wondrous.

My only issue is the lack of engine banks. Also I feel like the model in Empire at War was longer and thinner than the one we got. But that just might be scale issues.

Sure but its iconic for me. I love it since Rebellion/Supremacy. But yes, its of course Star Destroyer concept art at its base.

The assault frigate MK2 looks unstarwarsy to me with its stingy wasp design. It wouldnt bother me to much if it had not replaced my beloved assault frigate.
