Plated Hull. How does it work?

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Used the BTL-B Y-Wing for the first time tonight. Have some confusion on how the Plated Hull is supposed to work. Some help please!

Plated Hull is a dice modification and functions like any other dice mod. When a Republic Y-wing is defending, it goes like this:

1) Attacker rolls attack dice.

a) Defender mods attack dice. (plated hull happens here)

b) Attacker mods attack dice.

2) Defender rolls defense dice.

etc

Effectively, Plated Hull is only useful against naturally rolled crits. It doesn't do anything against, say, Advanced Targeting Computer or Marksmanship (which are dice mods that belong to the attacker), or for that matter even a target lock reroll that is a crit. So it's a helpful ability, but it doesn't work quite as often as you might think.

Appreciate the quick reply! Boy were we playing it wrong! What a Charlie Foxtrot!

Thanks again for the reply and for straightening that out for me!

Says you. :P We play against it alot. Most of the time when ive seen it kick in, the rolls are either pretty good where someone doesnt want to reroll the hit, or doesnt have mods to do anything about it. It helps more than you think.
