I'm new and wondering how big can you make a single squad of Droids.
Second: where do you find that information?

Units have a default size equal to the small number beneath their unit "rank" in the upper right corner of the card. In the B-1 Battle Droid's case, that's a Triangle with a 6 below it, signifying that the base, 36-point unit comes with 6 B-1s. You can then add a personel upgrade and a heavy weapons upgrade if you so choose, raising the squad to 8.

Minor correction: that number is in the upper RIGHT corner area. The number in the left corner is the point cost.
You can't have a squad of 36 droids 😉
Got it. So the symbols on the left of the card can only be added once. Thanks.

Alas, my dream of conquering game tables with sheer numbers has been shattered!

Well, you can have 6 squads of 8 droids, making it 48 B1 droids on the table... not bad ! (That makes it 14 B1 droids left in my reserve...)
