Barrier Vs. Moving in the Dungeon

By Coldmoonrising, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hello all,

Recently, my friends and I came across an interesting question about a spell versus moving in the dungeon. Here is the setup:

My friend Eric was moving towards the Lord of Darkness to defeat him, in the Dungeon, and move instantly to the Crown of Command (He was that over powered at this point) and he was roughly about 4 spaces from the Lord. Before his turn, my brother, Chris cast Barrier on the space just before the Lord of Darkness to stop Eric from moving on to the Lord's space. When Eric's turn came around he rolled a 5 on the die to move...

Now here is the question. Since Eric rolled a 5 on the die and could not move the full 5 spaces (only 3 spaces until he hit the Barrier spell) could Eric move up to the Barrier spell and stop there OR is he forced to move 5 spaces back? (Since he couldn't move his full die roll, and no, he didn't have the hunchback to allow him to stop less then his roll and had no character that would allow him to do so)

He would have to move away from the Barrier full 5 spaces. Still, at best is slowed him down a couple of turns...

Cool. We play Fight or Flight mode so in our case it means we are forced to flee the Dungeon.

I think a case could be made the Barrier fits into the one of the exceptions mentioned under the Fight or Flee rules though.

"Characters may only move against the direction of an arrow under the following
circumstances:

The character is instructed to do so by the rules on a card or space" (p. 11)

Barrier in this case prevents the character from moving in one direction, leaving him no option but to move against the arrows. Similar to Misdirection on the Inner Region, you're not considered to have turned back, even if you are moved back due to Misdirection.

Ah, that sounds logically. Thanks for your opinion, Dam.

Thanks for the clarification there guys... My brother is gonna be PISSED when he hears I made the wrong judgement call on that one, lol.
