Arc troopers

By Delta8, in Star Wars: Legion

What yall think of todays reveal of the Arc Trooper? Me? Im.ecstatic!!!

When I can kill one of those BX with Rex, i'm gonna say: "Roger... Roger."

Super happy with the sculpts themselves, especially combined with the forthcoming rules regarding line of sight and troopers (mentioned on stream but not called out what it will be).

They all look great, and I’m looking forward to them. So much so I am skipping purchasing P2 units so I can just keep my P1s running with these guys filling up the ranks.

I too am ecstatic. Looks like they're bringing some fun tools to the table and the models are just so good looking. I can't wait to add these guys to my army!

Love the the way you can pose these as well as it states in article

I guess they didn't want me to purchase phase ii clones?

The tank is different at least, but I'm really wondering why i would need phase ii clones. The arcs and phase I seem good enough. You'd always want to take rex and padme I'd think unless you really want Obiwan and then they'll release mace windu,

But you're still going to want ARCs

I can see why the author of the French Leaks confused these guys with Clan Wren.

They fly now THEN.

Weren't both ARC Troopers and Clan Wren on that list?

Oh that's right! Well, cool then.

First of all, I've been waiting for a mulit-model unit with Jump for a long time, so I'm really glad I decided to switch to clones. Since these probably won't be out until sometime this summer we have a bit of a wait to find out more information other than by the "zoom+enhance" method. Also, from what was said in the livestream yesterday, I think this will be a very versatile unit and may indicate that FFG won't be releasing as many units for the Special Forces slot for GAR/CIS like they did for Rebels/Empire.

We know there are 3x Heavy Weapon upgrades in this unit, two of which are named and can be used in Phase I and Phase II units as leaders also. Add the fact that these guys can be deployed as a 4-5 man squad or a 2-man strike team, again utilizing any of the three heavy weapon upgrades either way and you have an expansion that is potentially a huge game-changer for the Republic. We still don't know what the text/abilities of "Echo" and "Fives" are or how they will interact with the three different units they can be added to.

There are also a couple of upgrades in the spread that we don't have much info on at the moment. One is Ascension Cabling which costs 4 points and exhausts. The other one is Situational Awareness which looks like is a 2 point upgrade.

As for the models themselves, they look really cool and I'm already mulling over how to paint them up, and how many of these expansion to get. I've been a lot more conservative with my Repbulic army than I was with my Rebel army, but still enjoying what I've got.

Small point, but I thought it was pretty clear they would be heavy weapons, not leaders. Alex did say at one point you cant have echo and a Z6, and talked about how they dodnt want a personnel slot for the spec ops units.

yep, it's a heavy weapon slot, so you can use Fives or Echo in a Strike Team, ala a sniper.

It's also interesting to note if Fives/Echo are a Heavy Weapon upgrade that's not limited it's possible they'll be able to go into any future units as well. They really open up a lot of options for current and future GAR units.

Ascension Cabling I'm real interested to see how it plays. How's it differ from Grappling Hooks? I'd think it could give "Infiltrate" or something else deployment related, but then it wouldn't exhaust. If it just gives climbing then Jump Packs or Grappling Hooks seem better.

Heavy Weapons can have the "Leader" keyword, as seen on DT-F16. Which on one hand it would make sense if an ARC were in a squad of standard Troopers they'd be in charge, but one the other hand it creates a weird complication if that squad also takes a Clone Captain upgrade.

Definitely very interested/excited to see Fives/Echo in more detail

Agreed. I’m hoping there’s a way to play Fives and Echo as their own unit. If not, I may use both of their models in a strike team, just using the rules for one.

I would think your second option should be possible. Fives/Echo+ARC Trooper strike team. They mentioned that Echo has the sniper rifle so could theoretically make a 3-wound sniper team. Without knowing what Fives does we can assume you could make a Strike Team with him but not sure what it would do.

I think "Strike Team" in this case would probably be more versatile than what we've seen before. The generic Clone is the "sniper" while Echo has a larger repeating blaster, and Fives of course has 2 different blasters. I don't think these strike teams will be about sniping or bombs, but just a cheap means of activation with special skills from Fives and Echo themselves.

Well, this is my hope, at least, that having Fives or Echo on a Strike Team means you get more than pigeonholing them into a "this is my sniper" type of role. And more than "This is Pao or Bistan who has a cool gun"

Not sure of the time stamp but Alex mentioned that Echo has the same sniper weapon as the generic ARC heavy weapon. They added the generic Heavy Weapon ARC, which is the sniper weapon, so that the ARC troopers didn't have the same issue as the Rebel Pathfinders in not having a non-named upgrade.

I would like this as well, but I feel like if this was the intention, then they would have been introduced with a unit card, and other other would be a counterpart unfortunately.

but he also said yes they heavy weapons but they take the role of leader ie. like sniper dose on 2 man squad so they are leader but from heavy weapon spot samr thing you see in death troopers and pathfinders but they can lead core.

Ohhh gotcha. That's a little disappointing, but Echo at least has to have some other effect to justify his cost. If that "2" is indeed 2 HP and he's just a 2 HP sniper, I'll be disappointed

I think we can also assume he will have the Leader keyword. Might have better dice or perhaps an additional ability. Just have to wait and see. These are due to release in May according to the "Upcoming" page (if you choose to believe that thing).

Even if he's also got a DC-15x (and he might just have the DC-15 long arm, not the sniper) his dice and keywords might be slightly different because he's a hero. If it does, say hi to a regular unit of P1 or P2 clones with Range 5, remember you can slap them on regular clone troopers in place of the heavy unit.
