Is there an intro video or thread?

By Lord Ashram, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

So my son got this game, and I'll be honest, I'm confused as ****. Now we just started to get into it, but we were playing the first game (against Rhino) and seemed to have killed him in turn 2. Obviously that cannot be right, but I used Daredevil and then, next turn, I used the swinging kick or something, and we hit him with one other thing, and that was it, he was out of hitpoints. And I'm also missing what should be obvious stuff... like, when do you unexhaust a card?

So yeah... played plenty of Armada and X-Wing and the rest, but this one, I'm hopelessly lost. Anyone have a decent "intro" video of watching people play or something that they can recommend?

I don't know of an intro video, but check page 14 of the Learn to Play booklet: "End of Player Phase."

That explains when you get to ready (unexhaust) your cards.

I appreciate it! But I'm overall just SUPER duper lost in general... never had trouble "getting" a game before, but holy cow, I am now...

There are a few on YouTube. Here is one.

It is admittedly a little counter-intuitive with some of the mechanics (the one that got me for a while was the fact that you unexhaust at the end of the player turn, not the beginning), but when you get the rhythm down, you'll see that it plays really fast and smooth. And you will have moments where you are able to do way more damage than you think you should have in one turn; you'll also have moments where in the very first turn you lose because the villain (Rhino, specifically) managed to complete his scheme due to some unfortunate encounter deck draws. It's super swingy, just like a battle in the comics, which is what I love about it. I don't have time to find a good video right now, but if you still need help when I get home from work, I'd be happy to look around for a video that might help.

To the people I have introduced to the game I have recommended "Dale the Casual Gamer" on YouTube. I have no affiliation to him or his channel. I also enjoy Team Covenant, but no offense, constantly catch misplays on their parts. I'm sure it's just cause they are involved in so many games that they get things crossed up from time to time. But Dale runs things pretty smooth.

I didn't plan on it, but since I just started making Champions videos on my channel, I could do a Learn to Play video

They have a intro video from FFG but it doesn't teach you the game. Whats the main issue or issues that you can't figure out? I know it took me a while to understand that if the card doesn't have a resource symbol in the description you can ignore resource symbols.

That definitely doesn’t sound right - when looking at hit points (and several other Villain related cards) you have to look for the little person symbol next to numbers, because this means ‘per player’. So Rhino 1 has 14 hit points per player that starts the game, I.e. 28 if there are 2 of you.

You also need to beat Rhino 1 then Rhino 2 in a Standard game to win.

In a 2 player game on Standard difficulty Rhino has a total of 58 HP.

His HP is listed on the bottom of his cards. You should be playing against Rhino I and Rhino II. Defeat both of those and you win.

Ahhhh okay, got it. So THAT'S where I screwed up. Okay, thanks... I had seen the HP per player thing initially, but then couldn't find it again in the rules and got a bit lost.

Thanks!

Also applies to the threat on main schemes and some side schemes.
