And Graver, no offense but you're full of ****. Most people DONT know these options you're talking about and many just don't have the search-fu. We can afford a post a week asking a seemingly obvious question.

No offense taken (I have enough fence work here already, I can give away some if you need it though), but I have to disagree anyway. While usually my eyes are quite brown, oddly enough, this time, I don't think they were. Dispute popular opinion and many anecdotal bits of evidence to the contrary, I believe most folks are intelligent individuals with basic problem solving capabilities. While there's a wide swath of computer illiterate folks, most of them tend not to post on game forums which means that the bulk of folks on forums such as these do indeed know you can search most forums. To assist even those who might be unaware of such features existing on forums, there's even that big ol' button that says "Search the Forum" up at the top of this one. Further, searching for one uncommonly used word in the forum to which you would normally post a topic covering that word hardly takes any search-fu at all, just enough to type that one word in the search field, the forum to search from a combo-box, and click the "search" button -it takes more effort and thought to drive to the corner store really. While I have received extensive ninjitsu training and am quite possibly the most deadly mall-ninja with mad search-fu to ever walk this earth, you don't really have to be as well trained as I to pull that one off ;-)

But the rest, I'd definitely agree with! We can indeed afford an obvious question a week or every hour, but let's face it, they're boring. They get answered with one post and then fade away rather quickly. What's better are the posts asking stupid questions chock full of hyperbole or blatantly fallacious observations. They give folks an excuse to pull out the pokin' sticks, ridicule the ridiculous, and even make amusing commemorative posters to remember the post by! What's not to love about that?

Huh you know I didn't even know that large friendly search button worked... it's the only "icon" to not register as a hyperlink on this forum and turn my muse marker into a hand. I seriously thought it was disabled. After all, this is a forum where edit does not work. If you can Ninja-Edit your post please teach my master!

OK I was exaggerating a bit about the ****. Maybe you were just slightly dirty ;) I'm just wary of people who abuse the "n00bs" for not trying every other way than just making a post. RAFO, check the errata, search the forums, google it, wiki it.. etc. I can easily spend hours attempting this but sometimes it's quicker to fire off a question.

Now I'm off to test this brand new working "search" button... exiting.

I think he is referring to the cease-fire in WW2 where France capitulated to Nazi germany, and the myth and prejudice ever so common in USA that french people are naturally inclined to lose in war or give up easily. Or maybe even the use of the world Parley as cease-fire and coming from the french word for speaking.

:P

I can see the seeds of a new flame war being sown here ..... Khorne owns this thread ;)

I fear history classes in US public schools are to blame for this misinterpretation (one among many).

sir when you take the right to say a lie with a smile you deserve only contempt. i won't take offense but i strongly invite you read the dictionnary article about surrender, cease fire resistance and article about the first and second war. i dont salute you you aren not worthy of any respect.

You tell him, 8 spider!

It is exactly that sort of remark that causes the majority of the world to think of Americans as uncouth and ill-mannered. It is embarrassing. sonrojado.gif

They get even funnier when specifically asking for publishing an errata despite obviously not having looked for one. cool.gif

Who exactly are you talking to? Me? Gathrawny who made the joke? Meatpuppet who confronted him on it pretending to not understand?

from france

i thought it was pretty obvious. it is for the one who made the joke. don't even understand why you feel targeted.

I didn't at first but then I noticed the part about first and second world war so I wondered if there was a misunderstanding.

Anyway I suggest we this and it's a good thing that you rise above it. Vive le France! Vive le'Empereur! Wait lol sounds like Nappy ;)

Being Dutch I can read both English ánd French (and German) so that makes me superior to both America ánd France gui%C3%B1o.gif

All this nationalist pride and the world cup hasn't even begun yet lengua.gif

You guys took that way too seriously, especially you Frenchy.

Old losses die hard I suppose but I meant no insult. Back to flaming the OP guys, let's stay focused ;) .

I was simply referring to the disproportional amount of anger that my comment received from the 8 spider.

However, because I clearly know less about the ENGLISH words "ceasefire," "surrender," and "resistance," and less about World War II in general than the 8 spider, let's just it here. It was simply a joke playing off a stereotype that I recognize is, like ALL OTHER STEREOTYPES, a generalization, and wasn't meant to offend.

Je me rends a l'honneur

A minor point, but just look up the etymology of the so-called English words "surrender" and "resistance". Ceasefire isn't entirely English either gui%C3%B1o.gif
