Can a PC be an Adversary

The title says it all. I have a growingly more powerful Jedi/Dark side user and I was wondering if he will ever be an Adversary for NPCs? I have Reflect Improved and don't want to have o flip a destiny point all the time to try and get a despair. I understand three threat do it too.

No, there is no RAW way to get ranks in Adversary. It is NPC only.

The way to have the option for Despair is Dodge, Side Step, and Defensive Stance, other than that, just DPs and normal difficulty.

A generous GM might let you, but there is no way to get it RAW.

I have 2 defensive stance! I never really read it. Thanks! I know I should have read it but I got it a long time ago.

The Sense defense power effectively makes your character an adversary. But reelly no. the Adversary talent is a shorthand for all of the talents P-47 brought up. It is one talent that covers a number of other talents so the GM doesnt have to keep track of a dozen talents. PCs can do that. GMs need shortcuts because they are managing a lot of characters.

Note that Defensive Stance is only for melee attacks, it doesn't cover ranged attacks, so if you have Improved Reflect it won't do you any good. If you've got Improved Parry then it is useful.

There's only one way for a PC to obtain an adversity rating. Now the Master from teacher.

It can copy any talent in the game effectively and doesn't exclude NPC exclusive talents but it's a pretty long road to get there and most of the tree is themed around supporting other characters then yourself. But it's one **** of a big payoff. The only issue with the talent is that it can copy any talent, which in itself means that it must be used pretty carefully and it must be something you as a player is aware of. I regularly struggle to remember what my fellow players have so it can be tricky to remember. It can even copy dedications, but that is a massive pain in the backside unless you know your fellow PC's dedications way before hand as it replaces your dedications with there's, which can change the entire landscape of your character for a turn.

That being said, generally it's much better to take more general talents to upgrade yourself as you have found out.

In a Discord game that I play in the GM has a house rule that I adopted in my games for Improved Reflect/Parry which makes it much more useful against minions and helps bring the talent back to what we see in the movies and games.

  • To activate Improved Reflect or Improved Parry depends on the enemy that attacked the individual with the talent.
  • Minions activate either talent when they get 1 threat or one despair in their die pool results.
  • Rivals activate either talent when they get 2 threats or one despair in their die pool results. If a rival has more than 2 Adversary then the amount of threats required equals the Adversary trait they have for threats.
  • Nemesis activate either talent when they get 3 threats or one despair in their die pool results. If a nemesis has more than 3 Adversary then the amount of threats required equals the Adversary trait they have for threats.
