I just realized...

By Derrault, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

A thread for card interactions that you had not realized were there, even after dozens of playthroughs.

So, I’m in the midst of finishing up my She-Hulk Aggression run at expert Ultron with the Masters of Evil, on my nearly last play to win, and for whatever reason I pause and take a real look at the Hellcat card text, which reads:

Action : Return Hellcat to your hand.

And, it occurs to me, for the first time in maybe 200+ games...that doesn’t require her to exhaust. 😳 🤭 🤯

So, what (possibly really obvious) thing did it take you forever to realize you were doing wrong?

For me it's Black Cat's forced response. I missed the trigger in my first like you said 200+ games. She's so good I'd always forget about her enter's play forced response. It can hurt or help you too!

It's funny, I forgot to trigger black cat twice just yesterday and I forget to draw Spider-Man's Spider Sense card half the time as well 😅

You've played 200+ games with She Hulk!?

Yeah, Klaw expert VS legions of hydra probably accounts for 30 of them. That Madame hydra is just the biggest roadblock on Aggression.

But 200 games! Thats like 2 games a day since the game out.

I am jealous of your free time, lol

First several attempts at Klaw I was loosing every match. I couldn’t believe the jump in difficulty from Rhino. Then I reread his card and realized he only gets 2 boost cards on attacks, I was giving him 2 boost cards on every activation. I couldn’t keep up with the threat.

So if you've played 200+ games with one hero, how many games have you played total?

Not just 200 games - but 200+ games with She-Hulk alone.

We need to see your metrics. With that sample size we'd have some statistical significance. I've probably played maybe 30 game total so far since release and I thought I was doing good.

I thought I was doing well - just had my 101st play last night. But it sounds like @Derrault is on close to 500 plays?

I haven't kept track of my own number of plays but I get in about 3 games every few days. I've played all heroes in combination with all aspects (even played a Captain America deck with no aspect!) I used to try to meditate every day at 3pm... now I play Champions... it has about the same effect!

"So if you've played 200+ games with one hero, how many games have you played total?"

Good question; I don't really track the number, but I've done the standard versions of every villain with every hero in every module, and the expert versions with their default modules for the other heroes (on their default aspects).

I think that's about 560 games, excluding the losses. Right now I'm going through the complete run for She-Hulk and, of course, I started with aggression. Klaw + Legions of Hydra was far and away the most mind-bogglingly difficult matchup there thanks to his two start schemes being priority targets, but the LoH side scheme being absurdly difficult to get rid of if you don't focus it down immediately, and Aggression having very situational (and useless vs Madame Hydra) threat removal.

By way of comparison, Captain America could almost certainly auto-clear both those side schemes turn 1 without breaking a sweat. (Fearless Determination + I can do this all day is truly the bees knees).

I don't have a lot of free time, but once I had the rhythm down the game only takes ~15-20 minutes solo, if that. Some heroes go 'much' faster than others because they're just sickeningly good. (see: Leadership Captain Marvel), whereas other games get drawn out going many more rounds (see: Protection Black Panther). BP almost certainly gets a win...it's just soooo drawn out.

The release of the game coincided with holidays in November and December, so I was able to get in dozens of games some days. On a typical evening, I can get in maybe 8-12 games while watching a couple episodes of tv or whatever.

☹️ I contemplated taking notes early on, but didn’t. I don’t think I’ve had a single loss on standard.

Although I have rarely used it, but yesterday I just realized:

Ground Stomp, the She-Hulk signature event card, is not an attack. This event deals 1 damage to each enemy. Why this is relevant is that it will not cause Retaliate to trigger, and it can be used while stunned- which is exactly how I used it to remove tough from Sandman and Rhino so my allies could clobber them.
