Soonts or Turr?

By Captain Mayhem, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am running a five Interceptor list this weekend for kicks, but don't know which one to use. Should I go with:

Soontir with targeting Computer and 4x naked Saber Squadron Aces, or,

Turr with Predator and 4x Saber Aces all with Predator.

I want to go with either list because the Interceptor is my favorite looking ship. (Not to mention I have 5 Blood Stripe Interceptors on hand) And I think they would look awesome on the mat to boot!

I have 3 suggestions:

1) Soontir

2) Soontir

3) Soontir

😜

I ran the Soontir version last week and had some good interceptor fun taking down Jedi backed by N-1s. 😁

When looking at Saber Squadron I feel like for the 6pt premium of Turr over generic Saber I'd rather just go with 5xSaber. Targeting Computer and Crackshot comes to 40pt each And gives full symmetry to the list plus the ability to save something during those off turns where one player tries to disengage or you just pass each other.

You can fit Soontir with crackshot + targeting computer and 3 sabers with crackshot if you drop the last interceptor to an alpha. Crack really helps remove ships from the board and the alpha can be leveraged as a great blocker with double repositioning.

I'd probably agree. Turr is awesome if you can stretch for the price of Snap Shot (because even if you miss, getting to reactively boost/roll after the other guy moves means he's not as bad as you'd expect against higher initiative pilots and he can utterly destroy opponents when he has the initiative advantage). If you can't, I'm not convinced he's that great over a generic Saber, and I'd rather bring a bunch of sabers with Crack Shot (to get as much benefit of massed I4 fire whilst I still have 5 ships) as I can.

I'm not convinced by targeting computer because 90% of the time I'd still just focus. For Soontir, fair enough - though even then you've got to balance it against the cheaper Predator.

I run Daredevil Targeting computer Soontir or Turr. Lots of fun. I like the choice of having a lock. I’d rather have a lock and not need to use it rather than needing a lock and not having the option of taking a lock. Just me I guess,

I'll be the lone dissenter, and recommend turr, especially if you do put snap shot on him. I've always seemed to get more out of my games with turr over soontir

Soonts with Predator always

While that is a fun trick, I have so far not been able to click with it. It is a valid suggestion and the differences are similar to the argument for Passive Sensor vs FCS on Vader, except in this case SnapTurr is 6 points cheaper than PredSontir. If you can make better use of the reactionary reposition and the extra points than you can with lining up Soontir bullseyes then SnapTurr is the way to go!

I'm curious, @Hobbyist what would you would spend the rest of the points on in a Saber Squadron list?

Hmm, didn't really think about that. There's not a ton of options. You could go hull on Turr, but you want some kind of bid when you're running all 4's. Easiest choice is probably just adding crackshot on the sabers, leaving a 3 pt bid.

Same thought here. I considered filling out to 200 with Targeting Computer, but Turr's free actions are strictly reposition so I think he wants the main action to be Focus, and a little bid is a good idea at i4.

Imp. Turr Sabers

Yeah, simple enough. I'm mostly just a focus and go kind of flyer, so that's what I would do.
