Reprints?

By Electronic Scavenger, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am new to the Star Wars RPG and I have been getting some of the books but a lot seem to be out of print.. I looked back and saw some asked for reprints in November, and I heard about some of the cutbacks of the RPG section... Does anyone know at this point if there will be Reprints of existing books? Has Fantasy Flight Games said anything? I see the one book yet to be released.

Thanks.. Me and my friends hope to be playing this for a long time to come.

you best bet is to contact the support email for edge of the empire. They dont come here really. if you do open a support request let us know what the response is...

There's been no official word on reprints. All that FFG has said in the wake of the RPG team layoff is that "the product lines will continue," though that's been taken to refer specifically to the products that are already scheduled for release for not only SWRPG but L5R and Genesys.

Your best bet for a direct answer is as Daeglan suggested, contact FFG's support department. That said, odds are the response will be along the lines of "we can't confirm any plans for reprints at this time" as FFG is plays their cards quite close to the vest when it comes to future plans that don't already have an official announcement.

It's possible that we'll hear more about the fate of the Star Wars RPG line once the vehicle book drops in another month or so.

Thanks for the advice guys.. I will let you know if I hear anything.

Wow.. I really have great timing getting into things.. :)

on a side note enough demand might get them to do a reprint...

Well lets hope so I got a form letter about submitting my email, but I haven't heard anything yet..

I would like to get several of the books.. but not much I can do at the moment... we can just hope.

"Rebellions are built on hope." :P

LOL good one.

Good news, I just looked, and it seems most star wars books, cards and dice are available now to order.

Dang I missed that one.. by the time I got to check it out.. it was gone... :( and that was one I needed.

I will just have to keep looking.. no word on my inquire about it... they seem hard to find and buy.. I don't see why they wouldn't be selling.

I managed to order one, but it's still "pending". Fingers crossed, I guess.

Took a while for my Adversary Decks to ship in January (and once they did, the tracking info didn’t show anything beyond “ready for USPS pickup” until the day they arrived).

I ordered a few things and I had to call Asmodee to fix something with the order, and I was talking to the young lady helping me, and she did say some of the items were showing out of stock on the website because they were moving them to a new warehouse, and that only things in the new warehouse were counted as stock, but she couldn't say what has been moved and what has not, but this might explain why they have been getting low stock numbers in on some items.

I know they were closed for inventory at the end of December (which delayed fulfillment of my Adversary Deck order), but you’d think they’d have handled the move at the same time.

Unless the move was sprung on them as suddenly as the layoffs after the inventory was done.

The way she talked they may have zeroed it out and as they move it they bring it in and inventory it again kinda like new stock.. but if this has been going on since end of December.. then that's a lot of moving.

The announcement on the online store in December didn’t sound like zeroing out at all, more like a standard annual inventory. It said that from X date to Y date, no orders would be fulfilled as they did an inventory; orders placed at that time would start being fulfilled on the next business day.

It could be, I was just passing on what the lady said about moving to a new warehouse.. She just said if it hasn't been moved yet then it's not been added to the stock. Don't know if her info is up-to-date or not, but that's what she told me.

Oh, I don’t doubt you. I’m even giving her the benefit of the doubt that they’re moving warehouses. It just sounds like the warehouse relocation was as sudden as the layoffs and end of RPG development. And, is probably for the same likely reason: cutting costs to be more attractive to a potential buyer.

I really hope Asmodee does sell FFG and they get bought by someone who just spins thigs up where they left off. One hopes....

So you think they want out of the gaming business? They seem to have pretty popular games.. of course I know the profit margin on games is not as good as a lot of people think. I just hope what ever happens they keep things going... with the licencees.

No, they don’t want out. But FFG is owned by Asmodee, which is in turn owned by a private equity firm. And, SOP for private equity firms is to turn around after a few years, trim down the property to be super attractive on a balance sheet, and sell it off. Sometimes, this has the end result of absolutely gutting the company being sold. (Sometimes beyond its ability to survive after the sale.)

Scuttlebutt has been around for a while that the parent company has been looking at selling Asmodee. Looking at the FFG portion of the business, the leanest profit margins come from the departments that we know were reduced or eliminated at the first of the year: customer service (a non-revenue generating part of the business), FFG Interactive, and the RPG group.

It’e entirely possible that whoever ends up buying Asmodee (or just FFG, if it’s sold off separately) will, as Daeglan puts out there as a hope, see value in the company’s RPG properties and revive them. It would definitely be nice.

And I dont hold much hope. As you noted this process tends to kill companies.
