Rogue One - Early concept for atmospheric TIE that was used as basis for TIE Striker and TIE Reaper which appeared in the movie.

I actually like this design.

Pretty slick. The Striker and Reaper both look cool, but this one has style, too.

Ah, the TIE/tf Tuning Fork.

With engine howl that is always on pitch!!

This probably makes more sense from a manufacturing standpoint being closer to a standard Tie body. Still, I think I’m happy they changed it further into the two distinct ships. This is a cool alternative though.

Interestingly enough the original TIE’s from 1977 were given their distinct cinematic howl to evoke the fear brought about by the German Junkers Ju 87 - Stuka Dive Bombers.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Tibetan Singing Bowl.

I'd call it the TIE sugar glider, or TIE/sg for short.

I'll admit it has personality, but not enough flappy flappy for my tastes.

I prefer what we got. it's unlike anything we'd seen before and has variable geometry. A first for Imperial craft.

I prefer what we got but this is certainly still cool. I bet this one would look pretty cool with a silencer style cockpit

Look sweet.

...but would they actually fly?! 😂

That's the nice thing with Star Wars physics; with enough antigravity repulsorlifts and a big enough engine strapped to the back, anything will fly.

Might have known I'd see you in this topic! 😂 How's the Striker swarm getting on? Had much chance to fly it since the points update?

Glad they moved away from ball

I've flown it once (6 ships is interesting because of its sheer firepower) and oddly enough was actually flying against it last night. A friend is making it to the system open, and I'm not, so he's decided to join in the fun of aerodynamic shenanigans.

Had a game to demonstrate the squad last night, which was a Bughouse Swarm (5 Gravetic Deflection Nantex) versus 5 Black Squadron Scouts. The planning phase can basically be described as "Stuff is gonna be somewhere. Buggered if I know where...."

No System Open for me either this year; first one I've missed since they started. ☹️

Six Strikers sounds ridonkulous. Obviously they're shooting last, but as you say, that much firepower plus movement and blocking shenanigans it should be able to cope with the possibility of losing a ship or two to initiative kills.

New standard for swarms?

Sorry to hear that. I'm still trying to get to one!

Shove the Sentinels down their throats and light them up with the Scouts! I3 is kind of the initiative to beat, so against a lot of meta staples these will be moving last at 198.

Yeah, I opted to leave Ruthless off to get another i3 Black Sq. Scout, mostly because I don't like hurting my own ships, but also because i3 is so valuable in Hyperspace. Went 3-2 at Store Champs. It was so much fun having 6 Ailerons on the board!

These guys are interesting but the final design is more distinctive and makes much more sense from a pure logic POV, with the ailerons connect like that these things would have horrible maneuverability.
