Is primed thrusters worth it for 10 pts on Vonreg?

By Jaysnipesinc, in X-Wing

So being able to sloop or k turn and still double reposition is definitely fun. However despite the fun since daredevil is an option idk that thrusters is worth the 10pts on Vonreg, or any tie/ba really. Thoughts on if you would take thrusters for a competitive load out?

I would probably say no.

The regen tech is strong, but with only 4 total health can be tempestuous to use. Pattern Analyzer is a strong contender on them as well, and even creates an opportunity for proud tradition.

Especially on Holo who can 5k, action, focus, yeet the stress. repeat.

On an individual ship, Primed Thrusters pulls its weight. But in this game, the individual ship doesn't mean everything: it's about the squad. The points and tech slot that Primed Thrusters not only have to compete with all the other great tech upgrades that FO have access to, but also severely limit the squad's effectiveness be that in upgrades/better pilots/bid. 10 pt is a lot. In my experience, Poe and Kylo are both very good with Primed, and they can be competitive with it but they typically rather their friends having better toys. To keep on target with Vonreg, would you rather this:

"Holo" (54)
Proud Tradition (2)
Primed Thrusters (9)

Ship total: 65 Half Points: 33 Threshold: 2

Major Vonreg (57)
Proud Tradition (2)
Primed Thrusters (10)

Ship total: 69 Half Points: 35 Threshold: 2

Lieutenant Rivas (27)
Ship total: 27 Half Points: 14 Threshold: 2

Lieutenant LeHuse (39)
Ship total: 39 Half Points: 20 Threshold: 3

Total: 200

Or This?

"Holo" (54)
Proud Tradition (2)
Primed Thrusters (9)

Ship total: 65 Half Points: 33 Threshold: 2

Major Vonreg (57)
Daredevil (2)

Ship total: 59 Half Points: 30 Threshold: 2

Lieutenant Rivas (27)
Ship total: 27 Half Points: 14 Threshold: 2

Lieutenant LeHuse (39)
Special Forces Gunner (10)

Ship total: 49 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 3

Total: 200

Most certainly the latter. Lehuse turns from merely a beefy Rivas into an absolute madman. Vonreg no longer concerns himself with edge cases options that he sank an SF gunner's worth of points into, but just flies like FO Soontir. Now even Holo would like those repos to synergize with his ship ability, Proud Trad, and his pilot ability, but 9 pt even here are a lot (this problem is worsened in extended by the immense value Pattern Analyzer offers for just 5 pt). Those 9 pt can go to giving one of the Interceptors Deuterium Power Cells, equipping Mag Pulse Warheads on Vonreg, or even just bidding deep.

I would not take PT. The ships rarely need to do a red to get back into the fight, usually a 1 hard followed by a boost or roll + boost does just as well. Daredevil is good fun and gets you back in the fight just as well, and helps line up Vonreg's ability better. Pattern Analyzer might work just as well for the odd time you do turn around, but I'd rather leave the slot empty.

This is a great point. On the one hand, it's pretty cool that a TIE Baron with Primed can Roll and Boost after a red move. Among aces, they're the least likely to start a turn stressed, and can actually dial in red moves.

But do they *need* to do this? Not really. Daredevil Vonreg won't. I guess it'd be pretty sweet to put it on Holo, though, if there's points.

I think the point is more that they want to do a lot of blues already due to the strain and deplete (that they would rather not have used against them). That being the case, why not take stress as well? It really does open up a lot of options.

Still, investing too heavily in these seems like a mistake; as many have said before, it's somewhere between Soontir and L'ulo, and both are best used economically.
