TIE Phantom and Gunner upgrades

Hey guys, help me understand why TIE Phantoms have a Gunner Upgrade Icon, when most of the Gunner Upgrade cards refer to Turrets or Missiles, or Bombs, and the TIE Phantoms have NONE of these???

I only found one Imperial Gunner card that could be used - Fifth Brother - No reference to weapon type.

It originally had a Crew slot, which led to it being considered too powerful... It was swapped over to a Gunner slot.

Initially, the Phantom had a crew slot, but Whisper with Vader onboard proved to be overpowered. So, they changed the Phantoms to have the gunner slot.

Who knows. Guessing they were planning it for the future but wanted to be careful what gunners they released. They didnt want to give it a crew slot again for i imagine the same reason they switched alot of crew slots for gunner slots. 5th Brother is the first instance of them drip feeding the phantom a useful crew.

Also, BT-1 can go on them, if you are flying with Vader.

OK. So, I'll keep an eye out for valid Gunner cards for the Phantoms.

Fifth Brother sees a lot of play time in all Imperial ships with gunner slots.

Currently the only two Gunners, that make sense on a Tie Phantom or Striker are the Fifth Brother and BT-1. With the former being the desired upgrade card.

I really hope they will add more viable Gunners to the game. It's almost pointless to play Whisper and Duchess in the same squad, due to their conflict over the Brother.

You forget, Tie Strikers have device slots, meaning Skilled Bombardier can make sense on them as well.

That is true. I have yet to see a Striker flown with a Bomb or Mine. Although with Vagabond coming out, I expect a bit more of them nowdays.

Proximity Mines are great for guaranteed damage to any pursuier.

Especially on a ship that can drop, aileron maneuver, then maneuver again to gain some distance.

Or drop in the system phase, then aileron & drop again after fully completing the aileron, if you’re flying Vagabond

I flew a really fun game with 3 Fang aces against 5 Prox Strikers way back when, like a year ago. I'm playing like normal, Fenn Rau gets popped for 3 hits, and then it became whole different game. There was a lot of breaking-off instead of following someone, until the mines were spent.
