Padawan Survivor

By dougansf, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

My GM is running a Rebellion Era game. He’s disallowed F&D books, but Universal Specs that allow Force active characterS are fine.

I’m looking for suggestions for AoR or EotE Specs that synergies well with Padawan Survivor. It appears to be a good mix of combat and social talents. Big challenge that I see is Strain management, could use Grit and Second Wind.

Thanks

Well, what would you like the character to be able to do well?

If you want to be a lightsaber wielder, then a spec that beefs you up would be recommended. The uncanny reactions talent might be good for a class that wants to shoot first, like Gunslinger. A Charmer would benefit from the social talents.

Martial artist for more parry and unarmed parry. I'd also go for gadgeteer, and force sensitive outcast (collapse of the republic... it's similar to padawan survivor, and has the renegade form talent, and a cheap force rating (straight shot to the bottom on the right hand side)

Gadgeteer & padawan survivor will let you get you a pretty good lightsaber + 5 damage from deadly accuracy + 5 ranks of lightsaber.

Martial artist has 3 grit and mind over matter which keys off a good willpower (like constant vigilance), with renegade form (from force sensitive outcast)... you can make willpower the stat you use for lightsaber, then force powers initiative and lightsaber to would all key off of willpower (and with mind over matter so would strain recovery). Precision strike let's you choose a crit that to flip destiny points from black to white to fuel mind over matter and coordination dodge (from martial artist) which can make almost any attack against you miss if you have 5 ranks of coordination dodge. Btw the improved precision strike talent let's you pick a crit "overpowered" I think that let's you make an extra attack but it works with melee and brawl but not lightsaber.

Assuming human you could start with 3's in brawn agility intellect and willpower which are in my opinion the 4 most useful stats. After that use dedications to boost willpower.

And bounty hunter has the unmatched devastation signature ability.

Also you'd be paying the in career cost for those for specs... and other than martial artist and padawan survivor, you probably wouldn't be taking much of the specs so it isn't as expensive as 4 specs would normally be.

I can see it working pretty well with a Scoundrel, take the upper row and the right side of that tree and then loop back to the left at the bottom. Gives you a Padawan who has learned to lie and cheat in order to survive.

Honestly without F&D books its pretty pointless to make a force user in a game.

Certainly the Force powers would be sorely missed. (Including some from the career books: Manipulate, Ebb/Flow, Farsight, etc.)

If you have enhance sense and move (which I think AoR and EotE provide together) you should be ok and

You can even make a fairly decent lightsaber specialist by taking martial artist, padawan survivor, and force sensitive outcast. 6 ranks of parry and 2 of reflect, renegade form, plus disorienting strike and temple training from padawan survivor.

Even though it doesn't give you much upfront, Force Sensitive Emergent would combo pretty nicely as it offers ranks in Grit and Toughened, the Balance talent, and most importantly will get you to Force Rating 3. It's also universal, so you're not paying the out-of-career spec cost.

One thing to consider is what you're starting spec will be. Unless your GM is employing a house rule, characters in this system can't choose a universal spec as their starting specialization. Since Padawan Survivor will give you plenty of combat oomph on it's own, you may consider a starting career that offers you more ranks in Grit and/or Second Wind. Having a starting career/spec to help you capitalize on Padawan Survivor's social talents would be a good idea. I guess what to go with depends on if the GM is having you stick with EotE or AoR careers, or is allowing both.

Technically the Clone wars books are not Force and Destiny...

I can't save I've spent the time to look at the synergies with the Careers, but I did notice in this thread others talking about them missing certain Force Powers in the F&D books. I guess my question, just for the sake of it, is this: Is he disallowing the F&D books all together, or just the Careers and Specializations within?

He meant Careers/Specs are not allowed. If someone becomes a Force user through Universal specs, they gain the Morality system.

I ended up going with the Commander - Figurehead.

  • 3 ranks of Grit, 2 ranks of Resolve, and Intense Presence give a lot of Strain management.
  • 2 ranks of Confidence and Improved.
  • Career skills of Discipline, Perception, Ranged Light, and Vigilance are solid too.
