Vader Suppression bomb

By Homeskillett, in Army Building

I'm newer to the game, but after picking up the Command cards from Operative Vader, I had a fun idea to run by those more in the know. The idea is to flood the opposing army with Suppression very early by taking Vader as the Commander with Darkness Descends and Master of Evil Command cards. Drop in turn 1 close by, and turn 2 play Master of Evil, flooding the opposing army with Suppression while giving Vader a Dodge. Thoughts?

Infiltrate let's you deploy anywhere beyond range 3 of enemy units. You'll have to take into consideration cover. Vader moves speed 1 (or 2 with spur if you take the weaker Vader). Problem is, Master of Evil works at range 1-2, so you need to get pretty close with just those 2 moves, and still guarantee your cover, otherwise Vader might get absolutely destroyed.

For 3 extra points, you can also take Demoralize, that gives 1 suppression token to every enemy unit at range 1-2 at the end of your rally step. That means Master of Evil will result in 3 suppressions + 1 when you activate Vader, and Implacable (the 2 activation card) will give 2 suppressions, one per activation.

For 10 points, Force Reflexes and it's Dodge is always welcome, specially with such a in your face tactic. And finally saber throw at 5 points is a great way to make sure you always make at least a ranged attack.

I mean that's a good way to stop enemies in their tracks during a couple of turns. Vader will probably die very early on, but that leaves the rest of your army free to go for objectives, or, thin down the enemies at range.

You'll want some other forms of suppression in the form of Bossk or Mortars, etc.

In theory it seems really powerful and really easy to pull off. On the board though, its incredibly difficult to actually do and when you do it seems like its always underwhelming. From my experience with Vader Master of Evil is used to it's full potential when an opponent is left without a commander to help with their panic bubble. You've got to time it absolutely perfectly to where you activate Vader, dish out suppression, and then kill their commander that activation. All their units panic soon after and it's beautiful. But with Darkness Descends, you've gotta be extremely careful with where you place Vader so he doesn't die round one like has happened numerous times in my experience. Then moving up you're got to be even more careful so Master of Evil is not very easy to use round 2 at all.

Demoralize only gives one suppression to ONE enemy unit at range 1-2 not every unit. Still helpful for suppressing though.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I had indeed thought to add Bossk to the list, along with a mortar or two.

Krennic does that supression thing too 😉

No it doesn't. Krennic has Compel, it works on supressed friendlies.

Ah right. That card in turn 6 won me a fair share of games.
