The skimmer was at least in part a practical effect.

TBH I'm surprised at how little green/blue screen was used for many of those sets. Nice to know animatronics and proper set building isn't dead in scifi/fantasy.....

When even car chases have cgi cars added to them to increase excitement it wouldn't surprise me to find that for all the practical effects that each SW film has more CGI than the last

Oh I don't doubt that, but the surprise for me was that they actually made the jungle for the rebel base around the ship's, that the skimmer wasn't just a cockpit, and that Kylo's crash was a set. There certainly could have been a heap more cgi used
