There's not a great deal of hyperspace data out there at the moment, so I just thought I'd try canvassing on what people are flying these days. Has it all gone swarmy, so maybe one ace, shedloads of filler and a point or two or are aces with a bid still a thing?
Initiative bids and the hyperspace meta
Well, from my observations (local regular play, two well attended tournaments):
- Most lists settle on a few points of bid, two or three at most. Usually, this is due to there not being 'cheap' upgrades which are auto-includes.
- Swarms tend not to have any bid at all (either in 'pure' swarms or Ace+filler variety), as the points costs means you can *just* fit everything in with nothing to cut.
- Boba-Fenn is a massive, massive outlier in all of this. Very deep bid, which matters as the precise build can (and does) vary. Simply put, anyone flying Boba-Fenn is in a bidding war against...everyone else flying Boba-Fenn.
Also mostly seeing 2 or 3. There are some others though.
Some Resistance can be run nicely with 5 or 6.
I can imagine a 4 ship Republic list achieving similar depth, but I'm not sure they have much that will both benefit from it and be good enough against the field. Obi, Plo, N-1, plus chunky number?
I know that Obi, Plo and Broadside love winning a bid, but the 4th spot is hard to fill and still keep a worthy one.
Empire are weird now. No idea. If I fly Duchess, I want a massive one.
In any case, if I was wanting to be very confident of winning it, against anybody other than F+B, I'd be going for 7. But there's nothing that inspires me at that depth.
Seems to me, they've done a pretty good job of making the bid mean less.

I'd agree here, I think 1-3 will be extremely common, with those that care going deeper than 5 except for Boba/Fenn as mentioned.
