And Dreamworks released three new movies: The Thrawn Trilogy as episodes 7, 8 and 9...
And the fanbase is deeply polarized with some loving the new films, some ambivalent and a vocal minority decrying them as non canon garbage becuase they completely ignore the stories of Rey and Kylo.

And then Mars seceded and the asteroid colonies (or shall we say *belt*) started demanding independence and everything went downhill. There's at least a book worth of stories right there! Especially if we include glowing alien goop.

I loved it and the stories covered in addition to Roci crew's arc were all good. Burn Gorman as Chief Murtry was delightfuly hateable.

I was no fan of the EU novels and I am still less than enthusiastic about the sequel trilogy.

Agreed. The old EU is wildly overrated.
The sequel films are meh. The Mandalorian, Solo and Rogue One are good.
