Vader, Soontir & bombers

By Rubales, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi!

I'm curious about this list archetype, including Darth Vader, Soontir Fel and a couple of scimitars:

Vader, Soontir & bombers (199/200)
================================
TIE Advanced x1: Darth Vader (67 + 9)
+ Passive Sensors (3)
+ Afterburners (6)

TIE Interceptor: Soontir Fel (53)

TIE/sa Bomber: Scimitar Squadron Pilot (27 + 😎
+ Barrage Rockets (8)

TIE/sa Bomber: Scimitar Squadron Pilot (27 + 😎
+ Barrage Rockets (8)

Has anyone tested it? I would be happy to hear ideas and recommendations about how to fly this list.

Right off the top, the list used to be better when it had a bigger bid. Vader doesn't really mind not having one too much with Passive Sensors, but Soontir is a bit more at risk. Since there's next-to-no-bid, I'd probably just throw Crack Shot on Soontir, but often even a single point of bid can make a difference, so either way.

For strategy, there are probably still a few older games on YouTube of it being played when it was a popular archetype.

I would personally be tempted to use Vader with FCS and AB, give Soontir Predator, and accept the lack of a bid. Two I6s are still nice

Hmmm I think that PS would be more useful than FCS, considering the lack of bid... but I'm not sure, I will try to test both lists and see how it works...

I'm more in the Passive Sensors camp, too. I think FCS can be a really great force-efficiency upgrade if you've got a deepish bid, but without that, I'd rather have Passive Sensors or nothing. Running Vader with just Afterburners, Predator on Soontir and a 2-point bid wouldn't be terrible, but I think I'd prefer Passive Sensors (and maybe maybe not Crack Shot).
