Hi, I have just discovered Arkham Horror: The Card Game and I see it has been around for a few years with a good number of expansions. My question is: Is it too late to start collecting? I tend to be a completionist with my collections. If I start and buy a chunk of content each month do you think they will stop supporting the game or stop re-printing content before I can catch up? Thank you all for your time and advice, I appreciate it.
I really want to start but is it too late?
Hi and welcome.
It's definitely not too late. There are a couple of packs that are hard to get hold of at the moment (I gather that Miskatonic Museum is hard to find right now) but I am confident in stating that future print runs will be forthcoming. You should be able to catch up happily, with maybe a couple of gaps in your collection in the beginning.
As for an end to support for the game, obviously we can't know for certain, but Arkham LCG has (anecdotally) consistently been very profitable for FFG and the designers have stated that they have possible plans for many more cycles to come - plus, there's a large collection of investigators from the other Arkham Files games that are yet to be released. So I would be very surprised if the game didn't see continued support, releases and reprints. It may be that support is a bit spotty given the fluctuating position of FFG at the moment, but discontinuation is very unlikely.
For comparison, the LOTR LCG has recently been put on indefinite hiatus, but has been going for almost a decade now, and it seems that they (temporarily?) discontinued it because they had simply run out of content. With the huge amount of untapped potential and design space in the Arkham LCG, I don't see that happening any time soon.
You do occasionally see people selling off large collections of Arkham LCG so that might be an idea if you were wanting to make sure you don't miss out - though I completely understand wanting to buy new cards for yourself and assemble your collection piece by piece, I'm the same.
Edited by AllonymExtremely unlikely that they will stop this game anytime soon. It's very popular and they own the license. I expect we'll get a new cycle announcement reasonably soon which would carry us well into next year with content.
There are some packs that are currently OOP, but FFG does reprint old LCG packs. Though sometimes the wait for the reprint can take a while. That said I have every confidence everything will see a reprint.
It's not too late to jump aboard. I'd say get 2x core sets and jump in on the current cycle, which should all be in print. Then go back and collect a cycle completely in print like Carcosa. The cycles with some OOP packs like Dunwich will eventually get reprinted then you can go back and get those as well.
it's better to slow grow your collection anyway considering if you buy all the product released as this point you'll get quite the sticker shock on that cart when you check out. We must be getting close to $1000 if you count all the novellas and standalone scenarios.

Not too late at all. I picked up everything pre-Dream-eaters (besides Miskatonic Museum) just a week or two ago.
Thank you all for your advice, I definitely feel more confident about getting into collecting the game and will start soon! Thanks again, it is much appreciated !!
If you get into AH:TCG now, it would be a point very comparable to the one at which I started playing/collecting the Call of Cthulhu LCG. I eventually got a complete collection of that one without any heroic efforts, and I enjoyed its development arc in the meanwhile.
I also got into LOTR LCG during it's 4th cycle which is a similar point. There were a few packs that I needed to wait to get reprinted, but I did eventually get everything. That game is still reprinting product. I think we are cycle 9 now. I feel like Arkham Horror is more popular than LOTR LCG, but I'm always surprised to see just how many people still play LOTR LCG and are active on boards and discords for that game.

That hiatus has been suspended, apparently. They just announced two new products for the line.
And I think Arkham Horror makes more money for them, without needing any licenses, so you're probably fine.

The two products announced are the GenCon 2019 and Fellowship 2020 event decks - not new products at all, merely the commercial release of event packs, and not a signal of a reversal of their hiatus policy.

Ah. Still, ten years worth of product still in production for the most part is not a bad feat.
Thank you again to everyone who responded, it was a big help in my decision. Thank you!
From what I recalled they did tease that there was some sort of newer product still waiting to be announced for LOTR LCG. So while they have slowed down it's support considerably, it's not a dead line yet. They said it wasn't a 2.0 implementation like AGOT. A different way to use the cards I think was what was said.

The rumour going around, which was supported by some posts by developers (more along the lines of "I'd like to see..." or "We're looking into..." rather than anything concrete), was about trying to create a retroactive campaign mode for the game. Which I mean, I would be here for.
As a completioninst the question you will be asking is "when will this ever end?"

I am in exactly the same boat. I just got into Arkham Horror after reading some of Lovecraft's work recently. I've played a ton of FFG's games and as we all know reprinting is unpredictable and sometimes rare. However, I have successfully found everything for AH online, with one exception, the aforementioned "Miskatonic Museum" which I found at my LGS. Jump in and check the usual online stores and Amazon. Also, the vast majority of packs, standalones, and Arkham fiction are still available direct from FFG. Good luck, this is such a great game!
Speaking from my experience, with all the great campaigns out there you could easily skip the Dunwich Legacy start from the 2nd (The Path to Carcosa), go from there and buy into the dunwich when all the reprints are available. At this point i suggest taking a look at Eldan985s infographic for new players: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1GwzajrrRJmdaYHZMJs0zwZdj8-CCW-8_XRinz4bVE0I/edit
I have learned it is never too late for anything.
I have worn out my SW: Armada set, now I have gotten into Eldritch Horror and Arkham Horror LCG
I have already purchased TWO Core Sets and I have found a copy of The Dunwich Legacy and have now started ordering packs in order of model number.
AHC03, The Miskatonic Museum can be found on eBay and the like, but I have passed it and will get it later and have already ordered AHC04 The Essex County Express with all the rest of the expansions on schedule.
Eldritch Horror is awesome and so is the AH LCG, since I play those solo and the games are never the same twice!
Never too late to deal with the Mythos and somewhere out there, Cthulhu is waiting to devour us all.
However, the only issues that I have about these games being based on HP Lovecraft is that every time I finish playing a game, I have to go take a shower for I feel I did something wrong! LOL
Advice: Don't ever tell a police officer that you read a story written by HP Lovecraft! He may take you right to the Psych Ward for further evaluation! LOL

Fun fact: If you don't mind waiting an extra week to ship it from England, amazon.co.uk has The Miskatonic Museum. I bought a copy last week at MSRP, and it was only an extra $5-6 to ship it across the pond.
I managed to find Miskatonic on Amazon.ca. It was always floating around the $41 mark, then one day I saw it for $26 so ordered it.
Dunwich legacy was about $55 on the same site. I put it in my basket for purchase, went searching for something for the wife, and whilst doing that, found it had been removed and gone up to $60, as that copy (it stated one copy left) must have been sold, but replaced with 4 copies at the new price.
I looked on the web for a game store in uk near where my wife came from, and saw Legacy going cheap so on a whim I looked to see what the cost would be in CAD including postage and it was about $43. I then added in Essex County Express and it came to $60. Both items arrive next week by International Tracked post. 😁
I have The Miskatonic Express on its way from eBay!
I had to purchase Curse of the Rougarou and Carnivale of Horrors from FFG and they are now coming!
My Dunwich Legacy is complete and I have started ordering The Path To Carcosa Cycle!
Going in order of model number now at AHC12!
Cant get enough of this game!

I just ordered the last cycle to complete my set. If you're still looking for hard to find packs, check out AtomicEmpire. They don't have Miskatonic (ebay has a few), but they have everything else including the "return to..." and later standalones (Get the first two stand alones from FFG). I found all the AH Fiction at GameNerdz and Amazon.
Edited to add: Here is the best chaos bag around
