Galactic Empire In Hyperspace

By Synel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I’m looking for competitively viable, Empire Hyperspace options. One I thought of that focuses on making attacks threatening enough that the opponent wouldn’t want any of these ships flanking. But I feel that it’s very squishy when compared to other possibilities I could go with in FO, Resistance, or Galactic Republic (other factions I am liable to play in Hyperspace). So, how can this be better through different pilots and/or upgrades?

Thanks!

You can fit Duchess with 5th bro and Targeting Computer, Scourge, Mauler, Del Meeko and Vermeil with Targeting Computer. You get a 5-5-5-4-4 list with some defence rerolls and quite potent alpha, if you can aim the ships properly.

Ooh, yeah. That could work. I don’t have Targeting Computer, yet. I will be getting it in the heroes and aces when I pick that up. So, my substitute for now is Krennic. I’m thinking that optimized can go on Duchess, she can spend her attack results and keep 5bro for defense... Or maybe Del? He doesn’t have any offensive mods and 2 dice isn’t going to do much very often. Plus, if he’s getting shot at to take optimized down, everyone else has more of a chance. Not sure if that’s the best option.

(4) Director Krennic

Optimized Prototype should go on Del Meeko in my opinion. Although slapping Vermeil with Agent Kallus s also a decent option. Gives you a Focus into Hit on both Duchess and Vermeil, leaving you open to take other actions if required.

And, if vermeil is lucky with his target, also a blank to hit!

Would putting both krennic and Kallus on vermeil be too much? That would mean that someone else is spending their results for shield or crit-flipping, creating another threat. Then vermeil has the best chance at double passive mods without caring too much that his action was a lock (which would still be helpful in some cases). 7th Sister would be a better sub for Kallus, but definitely too expensive with two crew.

I think that's probably a bit too much.

If you've already got a lock and hunted, Vermeil's ability feels like overkill on what is ultimately just a standard primary-3.

By comparison, dropping to Feroph means you've got a tougher reaper - as you've got her defensive pilot ability - which means (in theory) your Krennic-carrier lasts longer and draws more fire.

I think Mauler/Scourge/Duchess is a good set - see the old "Imperial 5s" - the main question is what to substitute for Howlrunner and Crack Shot.

Mauler, Scourge, Duchess, and Maarek Stele (with Passive Sensors) leaves 48 points to spend on a 5th ship and assorted upgrades.

I think Del Meeko is a nice idea - instead of an offensive boost with Howlrunner he provides a defensive one (and the I5 ships should be able to wing targets early enough in the engagement phase for it to matter), but his area effect allows the TIE/x1 and TIE/sk to operate at much wider remove from the TIE/ln formation.

That also leaves enough points for Fifth Brother - always a good call for Duchess - and Mag-Pulse warheads for Maarek Stele, which might or might not work but strike me as a nice thing to have up your sleeve.

  • Duchess
    • Fifth Brother
  • Maarek Stele
    • Passive Sensors
    • Mag-Pulse Warheads
  • Mauler Mithel
  • Scourge Skutu
  • Del Meeko

I tried the duchess, mauler, scourge, Del, vermeil list last night on fly casual (played against a random list: 4 ose with hull upgrade and I think SF gunner). I am too used to playing ties that have more durability. I didn’t optimize my approach for sure, but my concerns about the squishiness of the list is there. This is my iteration of that to mitigate that concern a bit.

The idea of the list is, to let the Ties get a range 3 during initial engagement. And then either the enemy turns against the three ties or focuses on the agile Vermail and Duchess.

Either way you have two blobs of ships that can deliver serious pain. Mauler and Scourge are just mean, although the lack of rerolls hurts them a lot. On the other hand, Predator is not HS legal and throwing Targeting Computer on them, while an option, requires them to use the action on a Lock instead of Focus or Roll.
