Will there be more expansions available?

By The Steel Unicorn, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

I am in the UK and can't believe that I still can't find any of the expansion packs with my usual retailers for this product line!

Can ANYONE enlighten me with the truth about whether there will be any more Captain America/ Green Goblin packs etc becoming available? In short why is it so difficult to get these?

I think the problem is they released an early wave, my store in the US still hasn't gotten it's second shipment but some others have started to get them (TC, etc). Hopefully they reach you overseas soon, I've seen Green Goblin at some chain stores (Target / Barnes and Noble). over here so that may be an options too.

The short of it: there will be more, but no one knows when. I'm also still waiting.

In Short, welcome to an FFG product

If you're in the UK, currently you can pre-order Thor at chaoscards.co.uk

They really messed up with that early prerelease, they should've just done the january release.

I managed to snag Ms. Marvel and Green Goblin, still working on trying to nab a captain america pack. In USA btw.

I don't think this is a reasonable view. It was either they release the product they had early, and the rest of what they were able to in January, or just release the same amount all in January. I don't see how the latter is in any way preferable to the former, since it's not like they would have magically had more in that case.

Have you tried Barnes and Noble? As of today you can get Captain America. And actually all the other packs as well. Free shipping if you spend $35(?).

Do they ship to the UK for free?

Thanks for the tips guys.

But like, they always end up reprinting these a million times, why on earth don't they just print more? It would avoid the product shortages. It just seems odd that they can't even stock their own webstore.

They understandably don’t want to overprint either. Someone has to hold the extra stock if it doesn’t sell. It’s difficult to accurately gauge how much to make before first sales come in.

I saw the Core, the Captain America pack, and Ms.Marvel pack on the store shelf at Barnes and Noble just yesterday. My FLGS has 2 copies of the the "sold out" core. That means the product is out there, finding it may be the issue.

My original post was referring to the supply situation here in the UK. It seems that if FFG are having supply chain issues in the US then we haven't a snowflakes chance in **** of seing any improvement here over the Pond!

Wrecking Crew is being released in the UK next week, 7th Feb. And it is heavily allocated/sold out to preorders, so looks like the supply issue is set to continue. Assuming Green Goblin, Cap and Ms Marvel were part of one print run, and that Wrecking Crew and Thor are part of another, and Widow, Strange and [June pack] are part of another, it looks like the lack of supply will be an issue right through to Thor.

Hopefully Widow etc went to print after the game's release and they have increased the print run accordingly.

Given FFG's history of pretty severely under-printing popular LOTR LCG packs and cycles (Khazad-dum and the Dwarrowdelf cycle specifically) so that they sell out almost immediately after reprints, you might want to temper that hope a bit.

Thing is, they don't and basically never have had supply issues with the Arkham LCG. For whatever reason, it appears that the initial print runs of Marvel didn't anticipate its popularity. That's why I think those print runs that happened after the game's release will probably be fine.

What I don't get is that there doesn't appear to be any shortage with the base sets. Being that you only need one of each expansion it isn't rocket science to make the print run numbers for expansions match the print run numbers of the base sets.....

In short exasperating!

There's pretty solid evidence that a significant portion of people who play LCGs never buy an expansion. The folks who are on this forum are not representative of the player base. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually managed to convert more of those core-only buyers than expected with Champions. Frustrating in the short run, but hopefully good news in the long run.

This has been my thought as well. Especially given that the expansions are pick-up-and-play characters with no deck-building required and the first one is massively popular from the MCU.

There is even better evidence that FFG has consistently poorly estimated demand for their products. This has happened for Destiny, Arkham Horror, X-wing, and many other of their games. Any one of the gamers on this board could have told them that the marvel IP with the Arkham Horror mechanics would sell like hot cakes. They are being way too cautious avoiding risk while launching new products

My Wrecking Carew pack has just been confirmed for delivery 🤪 (UK)

Whereas my FLGS (UK) informed me today that they weren't getting any this week, even though it was on the new release sheet.

Excited to see Doctor Strange announced but I'm adamant that I won't be investing in any expansions for this game until the supply line opens again on the dried up first ones: Cap, GG etc.

That is course a choice you are allowed to make. Not sure why you would make it though? There is no "order' to the packs like there sort of is in LotR and AH coop lcg's. You can pick up any hero or villain and play with/against them. So if they get plenty of Doctor Strange packs in before Captain America gets reprinted, why would you not just pick that up first? I still don't have any expansions, but if I happen to see a Wrecking Crew at a store I visit, it is coming home with me regardless.

Yeah, this isn't Arkham Horror. It's not like you can't progress on to Play with Thor if you haven't already done the Ms. Marvel mission. Order that you manage to get the packs is completely irrelevant, gameplay wise.
