The Republic Generic Squadron

By cybercat07, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Anyone have any thoughts on this? It's a pretty simple straight forward swarm type list, with two generic Jedi.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I don't understand how this list works. How do the Jedi pass their locks to the Torrents? Why do you want to pass the locks to Torrents?

In any case, if you want to mess with sync. console with generics, you can do this instead:

Obi-Wan Kenobi (48)
Brilliant Evasion (3)
R5 Astromech (4)
Synchronized Console (1)

Ship total: 56 Half Points: 28 Threshold: 2

Blue Squadron Protector (27)
Dedicated (1)
Concussion Missiles (6)

The most unexplored part of Republic is dedicated, and this list makes sure that your Torrents can protect each other and also Obi Wan, while at the same time throwing some powerful attacks enabled by synchronized Console. You could also take Homing Missiles instead of Concussion Missiles.

To be honest my thought was to put the torrents in a line, and then have them pass locks amongst themselves. They would bump and take shots, while the Jedi would flank and take shots that way. Could be an awful plan, but I'm looking for something super simple.

How about this and HS.

Ahsoka Tano (44)
Calibrated Laser Targeting (2)

Ship total: 46 Half Points: 23 Threshold: 2

Jedi Knight (37)
Calibrated Laser Targeting (2)

Ship total: 39 Half Points: 20 Threshold: 2

I've only flown it in Fly Casual Sim.

I haven't had much luck with torrents with anything on them especially with missiles. The dial pretty much makes a mess for getting any more out of them than blocking. Seems like each time they are in a position to be useful otherwise they are facing needing their red maneuvers for that and thus not being useful. Two dice attacks even with a TL is a bit limp.

Unless you're going Sinker Swarm the torrents seem to be best as filler in your list.

If you're going to play the Synch Console lock pass game for ordinance I'd go with homing missiles over concussions. Have the Torrents all take a focus token then use Ahsoka (pilot) or a coordinate action to grant one or more V-19s a lock action. Your opponent is left with the unpleasant choice of up to four guaranteed damage or a double modified, four dice attack with a chance of more to follow. Plus it's up to four points cheaper depending on how many Torrents in the list.

And don't underestimate Torrents. Singularly there's not much to them but they're cheap even when loaded up and surprisingly beefy. One BSP with dedicated, synchronized console, and homing missiles is only 34 points. That's low enough to field four and still have room for a good anchor piece to support. The dial isn't amazing but rewards a bit of practice and patience.

Throwback to 1.0 of a sorts but this is Hyperspace legal:

Red Squadron Bomber (30)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Proton Bombs (5)

So I guess Ahsoka is great to trigger a second action (lock) after all of the Torrents have focused, isn't it?

If not Ahsoka, could this list also work with ObiWan?

Keeping the Torrents as BSP+dedicated+synch+homing you could run Obi with battle meditation, synch if you go without a config, or both. Dropping the Torrents to GST allows Obi to have the 7B config and keep a synch console.

I think the good thing about BSPs is the dedicated talent, so maybe this kind of list could work:

V-19 Torrent: Blue Squadron Protector (27 + 7)
+ Dedicated (1)
+ Homing Missiles (5)
+ Synchronized Console (1)

V-19 Torrent: Blue Squadron Protector (27 + 7)

Delta-7: Obi-Wan Kenobi (48 + 14)
+ Battle Meditation (10)
+ Calibrated Laser Targeting (4)
