It's Our Game!!!

By Guest, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Hi.

We opened a similar thread in the Agot Forum a year ago...And it was great...

Here we can post our cards and mechanics. It may be just a nice thread...or a good way for FFG to get some "information" on players dreams and needings and...who knows?

Pleas, just Post cards, keywords and mechanics. We still have the other speculation thread to talk about new races and stuff.

I suggest to use just a SINGLE TYPE of editing, to keep the thread as clean as possible.

Here's the format I suggest (with a card example):

High Elf Tactic

HIGH ELVES DON'T FORGET

5-HHH

Until the end of the turn, if a HE Unit of Support card you control is destroyed, put it back into play into one of your zones.

Caos Unit

TAINTED FIEND

1-CC

P - 3HP

If you don't declare this Unit as an attacker or defender during Combat, return it to its owner's hand at the end of the turn.

I'll post my actual ideas later...Now it's your turn! :)

Neutral Support

Palisade Wall

Cost = 3

Order Only

Units cannot attack this zone. If an opponent controls a 'siege' card in his or her battlefield, remove Palisade Wall from play.

Power = 0

High Elf Support

Pacify

3-HHH

Battlefield. Action: Spend 3 resources to make a player discard X cards from the top of his or her deck. X = the number of developments in your battlefield.

If FFG are like most other gaming companies this thread will be a great way to ensure that ideas for cards will never see print.

Specifically, what crowdedmind is referring to is that if FFG prints a card based on a player idea without getting a legal release up front, they can be liable for damages in court. Yeah, I know. I know this because talking to friends at Wizards R&D, they're not supposed to look at player card ideas for that reason.

We're here mostly to suggest ideas...If you don't want your cards to be stolen, don't post. :)

We've always written stuff like this and never had a problem.

Not the point sir. They *cannot* take ideas from an outside source due to legal reasons, whether we "would totally let them" or not.

Which is why we should limit ourselves to the humerous.

Here's mine:

Repeater Bolt Thrower Thrower

6HHHHH

Battlefield. Action: sacrifice a Repeater Bolt Thrower. If you do, pick up the sacrificed Repeater Bolt Thrower card and throw it at your opponent's capital board. Burn the closest non-burning zone to where the card lands.

I got the point and I was kiddin' a bit...

I think they can get ideas without really copying anything...Anyway, I like this kind of threads and I opened one. :)

YOUR CARD is great, though! :)

Anyway, I'll post another serious card.

EDIT: edited the following message...

I got the point and I was kiddin' a bit...

I think they can get ideas without really copying anything...Anyway, I like this kind of threads and I opened one. :)

YOUR CARD is great, though! :)

Anyway, I'll post a couple serious cards:

Caos Tactic

SOURCE OF ALL EVIL

6 CC

Action: corrupt each Unit you control. Then, deal 1 damage to each opponent's Capital for each corrupted Unit you control.

Neutral Unit

VILE TRAITOR

4

2P - 2HP

When Vile Traitor enters play, destroy a target O, C or DE Unit if you run it in a Destruction deck.

or destroy a target E, D or HE target Unit if you run it in an Order deck.

Orc Support

ANCIENT TOTEM OF TROLLS

2 O

P

This card takes P for each damage token on it.

Forced: at the beginning of your turn remove any number of tokens from any Unit you control and put them on Ancient Totem.

Dark Elf Tactic

EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL

2 KK

Action: choose target Unit controlled by an opponent. That player may choose to destroy it or to return it to its owner's hand, then discard a card at random from his or her hand.

Here is one that I'll just post up and pray it works.

I hereby give Fantasy Flight Games permission to copy and use any part of the following card for their game Warhammer: Invasion

Gotrek and Felix

6 - D/E, D/E, D/E, D/E (can use both Dwarf and Empire loyalty.)

5P, 4HP

This card has to defend if the opposing player is attacking.

Action: Sacrifice this card. When Gotrek and Felix are sacrificed destroy all opponents units with power 5 or higher as Gotrek has gone to seek his glorious death.

As a freelancer I have done a ton of free labor projects for companies most times just giving ideas. No company is bound by legal reasons to not be allowed to take work that has the creator's consent to use by the public. Before I decided to take this career path I knew I needed to study copyright laws, fair usage, and business principals. Not once out of two online courses, 5 books, and one discussion with a very important game designer, have I ever found truth to this claim of "we cannot take your idea for legal reasons".

More interesting is the fact that I can point to specific examples of "special" companies that don't have to follow these rules. UDE took public and viral events from youtube to bring to the WoW TCG. City of Heroes has a thread hosted by the lead art manager of Paragon titled 'All things art' in which they ask for players to post animation ideas, art concepts for new costume parts, and even filmed emotes for actions RP could use. Days of Wonder's first two expansions to Small World are community designs and ideas. A few articles on this very site are submitted without pay compensation. Parts of the books in the White Wolf line up are ideas or suggestions I talked directly to devs about back and forth until they worked and fit nicely into the system.

I would usually ignore a topic like this but I am getting sick and tired of game companies telling me they won't even look at my work because "of legal reasons". I don't make enough money to attend GenCon or other large conventions to show off my ideas and finished games while looking for a company to produce them. I dropped out of the computer animation industry because it felt like you had to know people just to make a career out of it. So you are telling me that despite having 70 player turn outs for my prototypes at local cons, I am to rely on lady luck to just happen to meet the right contact?

Life isn't fair...I can live with that. But for it to not be just...really? I live in good old Charleston SC. I have the drive and desire to make board, card, and roleplaying games. I let my passion drive me...but none of that matters since I can't get noticed other than locally. My play testers and local store have offered to make accounts on these forums and try to hype me up, but I told them no, because then my passion becomes a ploy.

Gortek and Felix are not your creation, first you need to get the creator's permission to use that license. Talk to William King and Nathan Long first. Then with their permission FFG can use your idea.

Wouldn't the overall permission lie with Games workshop and not the 2 writers? Otherwise it doesn't seem like Nathan Long would ever have been able to take over the writing of the gotrek and felix books.

come on, that's lame. gotrek and felix must be INVINCIBLE, something like.

Forced: This unit cannot be destroyed by any card. You can't lose the game and your oppenet can't win the game.

this should be the real gotrek and felix, were talking about 11 novel books of materials.

Ideally they should be 2 different cards instead of the same 1. Gotrek should definitely be battlefield only and have an ability that reads 'at the beginning of the turn, choose one other target unit. Gotrek goes into combat with tgt unit"

While Felix would be more versatile in the sense he could be put anywhere but if in the same zone as Gotrek, he would gain power and toughness.

And both should be neutral and order only.

It really depends. Because GW sold the rights to FFG. But I don't know the details myself about how the rights go. I would start by asking Long since he would be able to contact GW and find out. If GW has the rights still to every warhammer product then it is indeed confusing. Because they sold the rights of all non mini games to FFG, so since W:I is a FFG game I would think FFG just needs permission from the authors of the series.

I too believe Felix and Gortek should be two cards that benefit from having both on the table. Maybe since they seem to work together they could break the 1 hero per Zone rule but only for them.

They should be Order only. I think Felix should have more defense and gortek more attack. Having both in same zone allows them to share stats. Think of them back to back and calling out the dodges and attacks as seen on the covers of the books. Also make them cheaper if one is already on the other is in play. If you want to get fluffy, then make it so that when one dies a trigger goes off on the other.

For those not familiar...

Did they sell or license the rights to FFG? Doesn't Games workshop come out with some occasional boardgames themselves, like space hulk? If they sold all rights to non-mini games, it would mean they couldn't publish space hulk either.

Ideally the cards can't have too many abilities on them since it would just make them confusing or unbalanced. As for benefits, Felix seems to benefit a lot more from Gotrek being on board than the other way round.

And now you guys see why the players don't make the game. It is like having too many chefs in the kitchen so to speak. We will rarely come to an agreement over a card. Treants for Lord of the Rings would come to a conclusion before us.

Brutalysis tactic, neutral - 0. If this card is played on turn one, win the game.

Dark Elf Unit

Crone Hellebron, The Hag Queen

4-DD

2P - 4HP

Hero

Action:
While this unit attacks, look at the opponent's hand.
You may choose and discard one card from that hand.

From my understanding, when FFG purcahsed Sabertooth Games from GW, they also obtained the rights to use GW artwork, and all non-miniature related games. Talisman went to FFG becasue it was published under Black Library, which was under Sabertooth. Space Hulk and Blood Bowl were considered to be miniatures games, and thus were not covered under the sale agreement.

Probably more complicated than that. I suspect they have the rights to anything in the universe but can't publish any minis of anything in the GW warhammer universe.

As to companies not reviewing or using player generated content/ unsolicited content, the company opens itself up to lawsuits when it does so without a signed waiver. The chances of a regular person winning such a lawsuit is probably pretty low, but it can tie up the property and funds for years while the entire thing is hashed out. That is why so many companies, publishers, producers, authors, directors, writers etc. have a strict policy about it.

FFG allows champions to work with their designers to design a card. It shows they are open to player suggestions and ideas, but expecting the designers to comb the sites looking for ideas is probably a little far fetched. Doesn't mean we can't have fun doing it anyway though! :)

This doesn't apply so much to the card games, but my issues with FFG are that they are an amazing company that make amazing games, they just don't show much care for the games (which I know they have, based on experience from conventions). The card games get updated every month AND retain the best community support with the articles once a week.

However for the board games....that is a completely different scenario. For the board games they hype the heck out of a product until release. After release they ignore it unless an expansion is coming repeating the same hype until expansion. I just wish the hype continued after the product released. They have done this every once in a while with strategy articles, but I think more can be done.

Let's take Twilight Imperium. A fan of the game as basically made a 3 expansion for free to download. New maps, cards, rule variant, etc. I am sure Mr. Petersen knows this. Mr. Wilson has to have seen the Arkham customs that players have made. Corey saw my WoW TAG scenarios and asked me to continue making more. Eric sees that Chaos in the Old World was promised a strategy article for how each Chaos god can win using each victory condition (one was made the other 2 never were). So I guess my question to this company is simple. Mr. Petersen why have you not donated some of your time like your fans have to push the Twilight game? Mr. Wilson why don't you design a neat Ancient One or Herald for Arkham Horror to support the thread of fans and post it in the customs thread. Mr. Konieczka why don't you send me an idea for a WoW TAG scenario? To all, why don't you revitalize your games that take planning, money, and passion to design. I brought up Warrior Knights the other day at my store and they said "never heard of it", they had it on the shelf for so long. My store is still waiting on Arkham Horror's base game so that they can sale the expansions they have been carrying (no one is going to buy just an expansion). If you want to give the excuse "we don't have time for fans of certain products" then I ask you to think about the time the fans dedicate out of their busy lives to design variants and keep the forums and in turn the game life going.

I understand the legal reasons for not taking others' works, but I can't find reason for not adding free material that takes 1 or 2 hrs to create and post on the front page. Again this entire message is sorta on and off topic, because it doesn't pertain to the card game lines, but it does pertain to the shared feelings for more interaction with players.

In closing, I would like to make absolutely sure that FFG doesn't get the wrong message. I love the products that they produce, I love the quality and the unique mechanics of each one. I love this company to death, but sometimes I feel that they only love my money and not my passion for FFG and what it has done for the gaming community. Had I been given the wonderful opportunity to work for FFG (one of my dreams), then I would spend any free time I had not so much to chit chat in forums and cause trouble with my sarcastic remarks, but to instead do what I love doing. Making variants and free material for the community to test out and encouraging the community to share their ideas. Making free material for people that don't have time nor desire to do themselves is probably my favorite thing to do in life. I am a jerk at times I will admit, but I try to help those that cannot help themselves. That is how I enjoy life.

Edit: For this game I would love to see the OFFICIAL multiplayer variant, that has been promised for so long, posted on the site. Available for download and not have to wait for the rules in a multiplayer expansion with cards that are very useful for more than 2 players and fit the changes which cater to multiplayer games.

Instable Gobbo Explosives

Support 2+3*Orc

You can place it to target Players Capital Zone.

At start of your turn, if you controll the "Gobbo Explosives" roll a die.

Even: The captialzone and all units in it gain 6 dmg, unpreventable.

Odd: Move "Gobo Explosive" to traget capitalzone of the player left of you.

Flavortext: Blow things up! Blow things up! Blow things up! Wait not that!

I'd like to see more done with corruption as I chaos fan myself. I'd like to be able to move corrupted units from one zone to another.
