Upgraded Republic

By manoftomorrow010, in Army Building

I guess all the announced packs answered thia for me. Rex is meant to run along side some ARC troopers and play this card

This is the starting point for my Phase II/Saber list building:

799/800

  • Clone Captain Rex (Aggressive Tactics, Recon Intel)
  • R2-D2
  • Phase II Clone Troopers (Phase II Mortar Trooper, Overwatch)
  • Phase II Clone Troopers (Phase II Mortar Trooper, Overwatch)
  • Phase I Clone Troopers (Phase I Clone Specialist)
  • Phase I Clone Troopers (DC-15 Phase I Trooper)
  • Phase I Clone Troopers (DC-15 Phase I Trooper)
  • Phase I Clone Troopers
  • TX-130 Saber-Class Fighter Tank (Veteran Clone Pilot, TX-130 Twin Laser Turret, High-Energy Shells)

Commands:

  • Call Me Captain (1)
  • Ambush (1)
  • Take That, Clankers! (2)
  • Push (2)
  • Were Not Programmed (3)
  • Assault (3)
  • Standing Orders (4)

Rex will Scouting Party with the Phase IIs. The Specialist squad, the standard squad, and R2 will stick close to the tank for token sharing, escort, and repair. I am fine with the main gun + HES for the tank's Range 4 capability, instead of the Beam Cannon, because it isn't a bad drop-off, but the points saved are good.

Depending on the objective, the plain Phase I and Specialist Phase I squads will be cappers/repair/sabotagers, etc.

If a player has a GCW army and is working on Republic, would you recommend buying those final 2x phase 1 units to get up and running now or waiting for phase 2?

I’m debating what to pick up. Right now I’m pretty much locked into double commander, 4x phase 1s, and two barc. Just mix and match upgrades but the units are always the same.

If you can really wait, I’d wait for ARCs, but you’re probably looking at least a 3 month wait.

In regards to your command card choice, have you considered blast off to play turn one and get r2 a risk free suppression straight off the bat so he can secret mission and never get shot?

edit: suggesting of course you drop ambush not call me captain.

Nope, I played a few games with this list before the quarantine and R2 has never been in danger, as I use him to keep the tank healed, and do not play with him with the primary goal of completing Secret Mission. I did get the VP in one game, because the deployment setup was Battle Lines, and it was easy to complete, with him in the very far corner of the field, but still, behind the tank for the entire game until the final 2 rounds when he moved to the endzone.

The list focuses on the clones and tank, and Ambush is used to give an order to the tank + use Aggressive Tactics.

Probably more than that but yeah 🙂

I did put in an asmodee/ffg preorder last night for a single ARC unit. I’m not sure how many I’ll need but seeing how P2s became literal unobtanium without a preorder I decided I better make sure I have at least one.

I’m also planning on Padme and eventually the escape pod for R2. And I think I’ll end up with at least one new RT if I casually proxy rebel RTs for the rest (have two rebel RT currently, but I will need the main unit card and honestly I’ll want the new mini anyway).

Padme is really good with rex and clones. They both are cheap and augment the off/defense of the clones. I can't wait to see her 2 pip card. I usually just run her 1 pip, all of Rex's and maybe 1 of R2's and Assault and do fine
