New Squad Builder?

By feltipern1, in X-Wing

Any word on when the new Squad Builder app might be rolled out? By now, it's pretty evident that the old one's not going to be updated with the new points, so I'd like to know when I should look out for the new app.

Yeah it sure would be f***ing nice.

They just declined to comment on the live stream.

I'm hoping that means there's an announcement in the works for within the week, but I won't be surprised if we're disappointed.

I'm slightly hoping that means there will be something extra in the new app that we weren't expecting, but I'm fully planning on being disappointed.

Basically, just plan to be disappointed.

And sometimes you might be pleasantly surprised when they do what they say when they said they would.

It's called LaunchBayNext and it's already out my dudes. Seriously, there's no point in waiting around for the next train wreck.

Thank The Maker for independent third-party heroes like LaunchBay and YASB; without them we'd be building lists like Gandalf researching The Ring in the guts of Minas Tirith.

Matt Holland (comms guy at FFG) says he thinks it will be out on the 27th. But he relies on being told the correct things to say by the other guys at FFG.

I have to say, I've enjoyed the simplicity of YASB 2.0 during this interregnum period, when we have new points, but no official app to use them in. Not enough to use it exclusively, but enough to recognize the great value it has. However, I have not wavered in my support of the official app thus far...I had very few problems at its initial launch, and it's been more than satisfactory to use for any listbuilding I needed to do. There are some features that might be nice, but they're not needs.

P.S: @ClassicalMoser - what live stream? Not the one way back at the beginning of January?

The OP AMA they had earlier today.

I don’t really do OP but I watched it in case of tidbits like these

Same here - our player community is pretty limited, so most OP stuff isn't worth the cost to bring it in, and I have no interest in traveling to any larger events.

I'm sure Barnes & Noble already has it.

For everyone else...next fall, maybe.

Firing the app-development team probably didn't help the situation.

Maybe that was a different team running LOTR and such, but... I thought the current app development (for Xwing) was outsourced to a shop in Europe.

Maybe this new thing was supposed move things stateside and save time and money.

That’s just the points that will get updated on the 27th, not the new app.

Was there ever an official date the new points went into use given? I know before the official squad-builder didn't get changed till the effective date. I've only ever seen forums comments regarding the date. The new points are still being provided on the product page as "upcoming."

No it was always outsourced, and it always would be.

Maybe to US contractors, but who knows/cares as long as the end product is good?

I can't think of a better way to build lists than like Gandalf researching in the guts of Minas Tirith

I really hope they get all this sorted out soon. Every single release they've done for six months have been a complete mess, and the fact that we still don't have solid release dates for Wave 6 is just sad. And how hard would it be to just add the new stuff to the old app, as a sort of stopgap? The LBN and YASB guys updated theirs within hours of the points updates. Leaving an incomplete, out of date official squad builder online just looks like they're giving up.

I'm trying to convert a couple of 40k players, but the seeming randomness of releases and availability, combined with constant delays and a lack of information, sure isn't helping.

If the points are not yet official the official squad-builder needs to still be presenting the official points. Until the "upcoming points" PDFs become the only points PDFs and lose their "upcoming" labels the official squad-builder is not yet out of date.

Link to a link saying the update will be the 27th of Jan.

To be fair, the points prior to a few weeks ago were still marked as “Upcoming” till a few days prior to the 9th

Yes. I have mentioned that. They were still marked as "Upcoming" this morning and as of this post.

And Australia will have it in summer :)

Launch Bay Next.

Why wait to use something of so far questionable quality when there are already very agreeable solutions to the problem?

I feel App to be updated just means the current officer App will be updated with the new points Jan 27th.

Though I would love to be wrong and a fresh new officers App that takes all the best parts of all third party appy and add in new things we haven't seen in apps so far is released end of Jan.

Hope there is a way to transfer your lists from one squad builder to another easily.

They have added the new product to the my collection page so there is the possibility we’ll get an update to the old app before we see a new app.

Of course there’s also the possibility that we get new features to this app as opposed to a whole new one. was it actually stated that a brand new app was coming or was there a lot of gray area when they mentioned new app?
