Genesys/Beanstalk style Slicing

By The Grand Falloon, in Game Masters

I'm just curious if anyone has imported the Hacking/Netrunning rules over to Star Wars. I know the setting is lower-tech in a lot of ways, so it wouldn't work for every group, but someone playing a dedicated Slicer would probably get a kick out of it. I think the biggest change would be toning down exactly what could be done with a computer. There isn't really an Internet equivalent; the closest thing would be the Holo-Net, and that should be both very difficult to get into and limited as to what you can find. So, for example, you can't just park your ship on an asteroid in the Scarif System, hack into the planetside computer, and download the Death Star plans. For pretty much any system, you need direct physical access of some sort. This also means that any SysOp trying to trace you should have a much easier time pinpointing your general location. "He's somewhere on the planet," isn't terribly helpful when the Slicer is probably in the building. Also, I imagine the Brain-Machine Interface would be pretty much covered by cybernetics, droids, or perhaps even a Force-User with the Manipulate power.
