So the title basically says it. I've skipped 2nd edition until now, but I want to get back in!

I'm intrigued by the general concept of Hyperspace and apparently there have been some changes lately, so would you mind ginving me a rough rundown on the state/balance of the game?

I do own the 2nd ed. core set, the Y-Wing and the Tie Advanced expansions. Looking to get into the prequel factions at some point as well, but for now I think I will dabble with OT stuff only. I also have a weird urge to play Krennic (I've been listening to the Catalyst audiobook lately), so the Reaper is probably going to be a must buy, once it has been released.

Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated!

Hyperspace events are fairly rare, but it’s a curated, rotating format. The level of talk about it is all out of proportion to its actual impact.

Nobody knows about balance yet, it’s a new meta.

Not so rare.... they were handing out hyperspace trials last year like candy in some regions. My area had at least 3-4 in 2029.

And store champs 2020 will be hyperspace for the first half of the year...

Store Champs and SOS only this year. Regionals etc. and worlds will be extended.

No one at my FLGS this week was interested in Extended, unfortunately. That was all I brought so I had to redo my lists. Your mileage may vary, but there's a lot of buzz right now, and that tends to translate into the everyday experience.

I'm personally far more interested in the effect the new points will have on the extended meta, but so many people are going bonkers over hyperspace that it may take a long time to find out anything meaningful there...
