FFF - Four Fearless Fangs (Hyperspace)

By Ryuneke, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I played against 4 T-70‘s (3 Initiative 1 and Poe) yesterday. I lined my ships up facing the X Wings and going all in for a honorable joust. It worked out well. One X Wing got initiative killed while all of my Fangs survived. After that I split them up and killed the remaining resistance fleet.

Major lesson:

-Your jousting Potential is really high. The „high“ initiative helps to Initiative kill stuff.
I need to joust different listarchetypes to see what works and what not

Maybe you could rename the thread to:

FFFF: Four F****** Fearles Fangs.

On the actual topic: I like how you describe that the Fangs can be played as mean jousters or pocket aces depending what the enemy fields.

You might be right. Having an ace is big. I need to try it.

My experience in this kind of archetype is limited to Saber TIE Interceptors, but the recent points changes allowed me to go from 4 Crack Sabers + little buddy to Soontir + 3 Crack Sabers + little buddy.

The addition of the i6 was huge, changing tough matchups to much more even ones.

Not that you’re intending to use this for HS, but wanted to point out Crackshot isn’t HS legal. Felt the need to add that since it’s a HS thread for the most part.

Neither are Interceptors, I was just describing the squad that was used.

No Interceptors?! Geez they really did take the axe to HS.

Just came back from another 5 round HS tournament. 22 players participated. I played 4 Fearless Fangs.

Game 1 against Vader, Visir, Maarek Steele, generic Tie x1

I set up in a close formation diagonal to the opponent forces. In the first round I hard turned left facing alongside my boardedge. Vader took the bait and started flanking. So I hard turned again and 5 forwarded afterwards towards Vader. I killed Vader with some dice luck which was basically game. BUUUUT as we all know, an early victory can lead into unfocused behavior. So instead of doing the right move to disengage and come back in one round later, I turned all the Fangs into the enemy forces facing the obstacles. Maarek one-shotted one Fang and I contiuned playing bad X-Wing. My concentration came back and I killed Maarek und the Reaper. I barely won against the Tie Advanced with only half a Fang left an the board. 200-175

Game 2 against BoFrost (Koshka and Boba)

This is a pretty famous list in germany. Dalli created it. It's super tanky and deals out a ton of damage. I set up across from Koshka, trying to joust her. It worked well. I had two Fangs at r2 and 2 at r3. Unfortunately Koshkas green dice were super hot and she only suffered two damage. I thought Koshka tried to bump into my Fangs to not get shot, so I dialed in moves to bump into my own Fangs. But instead she turned away from the Fangs which gave me 3 shots into her. Her health finally dropped but she was still alive. Boba approached from behind an killed a Fang with Koshkas help. One round later Koshka finally went down and Boba one-shotted another Fang....
Two damaged Fangs against a full health Boba, didin't looked good. I regrouped both Mandalorians and had two awesome range 3 shots where Boba lost 5 hp. Another Fang died. Boba had 3 hp left, my Fang only had 2 hp remaining. I drawed Boba into the rocks so he had to face the Fang. Concordia Faceoff saved the day and my Fang rolled 4 hits with Fearless and focus. Boba evaded only one and died.... Never thought I would have won this one. 200-175

Game 3 against 5xA's

Going into game 3 with bad MOV. A-Wings are a pretty bad matchup for Fangs because they can shoot out of the bum. Again I kept my Fangs togehter. He spread his A's a bit. I played super cagy because I don't want him to just overshoot my formation. So I mainly dialed in 2 speed maneuvers to have more options. I spread my Fangs a bit attacking two groups of A-Wings. I tried to put as many arcs as possible threatening certain areas so he had to use most of his actions to disengage. I finally caught one A-Wing at range 1 and 2 of two Fangs-dead. The other A-Wings suffered damage as well and I killed them one by one winning 162 - 50. I only lost 2 half Fangs here. The key to victory was to keep them together as long as possible to show my opponent that he has to face them, if he wants to get behind them. Dialing in slow moves with the Fangs and threatening multiple areas was huge, too. The problem the A-Wings hadin this matchup was that Advanced Optics requires them to spend a focus. Talli for instance was always scared to spend the focus because almost every time one Fang was able to shoot her. Stripping the focus from the lower initiative A's kept my Fangs alive as well.

Game 4 against Dengar, Boba and a Contracted Scout (Jumpmaster)

I don' like Boba. The Scout started at the right and I put my Fangs as far away from him as I can get because I didn't want to get bumped early. Dengar started in the middle, Boba across from me. So Boba it is. I approached slow an traded some shots with Boba with some damage here and there. The key to that game was that the Contracted Scout had to fly a 3 bank with the opportunity for all of my Fangs to turn in facing. The Fang on the outside turned in with a hard one to block boba while the other turned in with 2 and 3 turns. That left Boba with no shot and Dengar with a unmodded range 1 shot for no damage. Four Fangs killed the Contracted Scout in one round. The Fang that blocked Boba turned away from him again so he had to fly to the corner of the board to get a shot. He initiative killed the Fang who completely blanked while the other put lots of damage into Dengar who died in the next round without any options. It was Boba against 3 Fangs. The bounty hunter halfed all 3 remaining Fangs but died in the end. 200-125

Game 5 against 7 M3a's (4 with Autoblaster, 3 with Tractor and 1 with Ion - I think)

The guy playing this list is well known for flying such stuff. He's super good at it. My goal was to kill at least one M3a at the first engagement. I setup in formation again while he split up his forces a bit. Our first engagment was frustrating. I wasn't able to kill a single Scyk. He evaded like there will be no tomorrow. I ony did 4 damage, leaving one at one health with 3 Fangs shooting him (at r1 and 2 :( ). It gone downwards from there. A big bump party started leaving my Fangs without any actions. Concardia Faceoff didn't help much because he picked range 2 targets most of the time. I blanked twice against the ione cannon and the tractor beam... He rolled 2 crits and 3 crits later on that I couldn't dodge (because Autoblaster) which killed my Fangs one by one. At the end I took out only two Interceptors and got half points on two. Loss 84 - 150. My opponent admitted that his dice were super hot. But he did the right decisions so deserved his victory.

I went 4-1 over the day about which I am super happy. I am now 13-2 with the list and starting to get a hang of it, knowing what to do.

Major lessons:

- stay focused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if you think you will definetely win this. It nearly cost me my first game
- Fangs are excellent blockers against higher initiative ships
- Don't be afraid to self bump (or tactical bump ;) ) into your own ships. Your passive mods will save the day.
- Even if Fangs are really good at knife fighting, it can be good to disengage at some point to regroup. I did this in the game against the A-Wings and against BoFrost which really helped
- Don't force a r1 Fearless shot when you are not sure to kill the enemy ship if your next turn will be bad
- I think it's better to split up the Fangs against a lower ini swarm. I should have done this at the final table. Approaching from two different angles maybe would have won me the game. Next time!!
- I still can't get enough of this list! IT'S SO MUCH FUN!!!!
