Team Epic Remue-Menage

By Darth Meanie, in X-Wing Epic Play

Help!!

So, I'm off to Adepticon to play Team Epic with my brother. This means that Darth Meanie has been converted to the Light Side, and is now flying for the Rebel Alliance.

Ergo, I have no idea what I'm doing in this faction. 😂

For my 1/2 of the list I'd like to do a corvette and x-wing(s).

Anyone have any good tips?? I've barely flown any epic 2.0, having just gotten in my first game this week. ☹️

BTW, I when did fly my corvette (as Republic) this week and liked Ion Cannon and Point Defense Batteries. I used Strategic Commander as well and found it to be not so useful.

The CR-90 is pretty forgiving. Ion Cannon is my go-to, as is Stalwart Commander - maaaaybe Raymus Antilles if points allow. I like to have the Bombardment Specialists on board, because a 5-dice Range 1 Ion shot is magic. Tibanna can be useful, of course, and the Thunderstrike title pairs beautifully with Point Defense. But yeah. Corvettes are just plain solid. Have fun!

Targeting battery is your friend.

Have at least one upgrade card that gives you linked action into calculate, you'll use it.

X-wing in wings are amazing ordinance carriers when your huge can coordinate.

What's the point limit though? You may be stuck doing one or the other.

I get 1/2 of 500, so just 250 points. You need a Wing or a Huge.

I think the leaves me literally with 1 lightly modded corvette and one good ace (I'm planning on Wedge--I'm gonna need something close to Easy Mode since I'm unfamiliar with Rebels.}

My brother, the B-wing fiend, will bring a wing of B-wings plus whatever.

So far, this is my thought:

Alderaanian Guard (146)
Turbolaser Battery (13)
Ion Cannon Battery (5)
Gunnery Specialists (8)
Damage Control Team (3)

Ship total: 175 Half Points: 88 Threshold: 13

Wedge Antilles (55)
Marksmanship (1)
Proton Torpedoes (13)
R5-D8 (6)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Ship total: 75 Half Points: 38 Threshold: 3

Total: 250

I guess I was afraid to not take the Big Gun. Why do you like Targeting Battery better? My bro didn't seem to get mileage out of it on his C-ROC.

For your consideration, with what you've got as an framework...

Mean One (250/200)
=================
CR90: Alderaanian Guard (146 + 40)
+ Targeting Battery (6)
+ Turbolaser Battery (13)
+ Sensor Experts (10)
+ Damage Control Team (3)
+ Boosted Scanners (8)
T-65 X-wing: Wedge Antilles (55 + 9)
+ Plasma Torpedoes (9)

@@@@@@@@@

But then there's this cheeky little number. And I think it gets you an extra attack from Ezra from the targeting battery, a free coordinate to help your bro, some double down synergy from Toryn. Also, the salary Captain buys you a death throw which could be explosive.

Mr Grinch (250/200)
==================
CR90: Alderaanian Guard (146 + 72)
+ Stalwart Captain (6)
+ Point-Defense Battery (9)
+ Turbolaser Battery (13)
+ Ezra Bridger (14)
+ Toryn Farr (4)
+ Sensor Experts (10)
+ Damage Control Team (3)
+ Boosted Scanners (8)
+ Liberator (5)
Sheathipede: AP-5 (32)

Mostly I just worry for the brothers B-wing-wing. That could get turboed down real hard.

@Darth Meanie Probably would help if I actually answered your questions huh? Lol 😅 🤪

I really like targeting battery because it keeps me always locked on something. And can keep locking. Action economy is good and all that. And since you can chain your attacks however you want, you can action lock, fire the target battery with rerolls, get the lock back, fire the primary with rerolls, Ezra into new target battery arc to get a new lock, fire the turbos with rerolls. Energy consuming, but brutal. Like it's own fire control system.

At worst, it's a solid three die gun that gets you a free action. And that's pretty good for 'at worst' y'know?

I don't think Ezra works that way because Targeting Battery is only a single turret, not a bowtie.

And even if it were, it only has "Bonus Attack" listed once on the card, and each huge ship is limited to one instance of each "Bonus Attack" header each round. Essentially gunners that grant bonus attacks are useless on huge ships, unless they let you fire an "Attack" header as a bonus attack, because huge ships may use a card effect to fire an "Attack" header as a bonus attack once per round.

I know the bow tie part works, that was clarified at one point (can't remember where now) the bonus part is the only real question I'll give you that. Far as I can tell it works because your not using the bonus attack header of the turret, but off the Gunner. I think they added that single time ruling to stop rules lawyers who were trying to argue that you could just keep firing. So you still get it once, plus Gunner.

Lol, I guess in not being clear. Point-Defense Battery is the only Hardpoint that's a double turret. The other three Hardpoints have only a single turret, and Ezra says you have to choose a turret you haven't attacked from. So Ezra doesn't work if you use the Targeting Battery first, but if you use Ezra first to fire the Targeting Battery, you can't fire the Targeting Battery because you've already used that Bonus Attack header.

Dang u right fam. I was working tonight actually thinking about that like 'isn't it a bow arc?'

Yeah no biggie. I think about epic way too much 😁 (and I had to double check that I had remembered it right).

Damage control team is almost mandatory, you'll be reinforcing every round if you're smart, and the fact that they not only reduce the energy needed to get your weapons online, but let you do it Before you engage makes sure you can get full firepower every turn. Bombardment specialists are also very good, bringing your primary/ion battery to range 5 and your turbolasers to range 2 sounds very powerful. Leia is also probably auto-include, but keep in mind there will probably be some restriction on her use (my local rules say you can only use her for the ships in your squad, not for your teammates). You may also want to bring C-3P0 aboard, mainly for the extra calc, but possibly useful when defending at long range or with the Tantive IV title.

Here's build I used:

•Ion cannon battery

•Targeting battery

•C-3P0

•Leia

•Bombardment specialists

•Damage control team

I played this in a team epic match with 300 points each and 4 players per side. I was also flying a wing of cluster missile Z-95s led by Airen Cracken. I setup on the edge, opposite a ordnance tubes raider with echo and a pair of TIE defenders.

C-3P0's extra calculate was money, and leia did her thing as advertised. Bombardment specialists gave me a turn of unanswered shots against the raider, leaving it down a few shields when we engaged.

Even with the extra turn of fire, however, I was losing the damage race against the raider, and nearly lost the CR-90 had it not been for the help of my scum teammate's C-Roc and his IG-88's well-placed jamming beam.

The game kinda had a death star moment though, where my CR-90 had 2 of the crits that stop energy regen, and both of my turrets were offline, and The previous turn, I had dealt enough ion tokens to leave the raider without the energy to fire all of its weapons. So it was like, we had this one turn to finish off the raider before it could kill my Crippled Corvette. DTC came in clutch here, letting me use my remaining energy to flip my guns in time to fire them. my teammate also arrived just in time to strip the reinforce with a jamming beam so the Z-95 wing could tear into it.

Anyway, my takeaway from that incredibly fun game was that the CR-90 probably needs Tibanna+Turbolasers+Targeting (the holy T-rinity :) )

if it wants to keep up with its pizza-shaped cousin in damage output. Yeah, the ion battery was helpful, but my situation may have been less dire if the ions I dealt had it just been normal damage instead.

The b-wing is my brother's signature ship. So, given that I invited him to come play at Adepticon with me, I want so see him have fun with his favorite ship. To the point where if we get burned down because of it, it's totally fine.

In his favor is the fact that he flies these things all the time . If anyone can get by with b-wings, he might be The Guy. And, if he does crash and burn, I get to see how to kill b-wings.

The idea that I could scream "For hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee!!" in the middle of a tournament is priceless. :P

Thanks for the corvette builds. I think I like the first list best. At the very least, you made me look at some other upgrades I haven't considered.

Sounds great! I too am a bit of a B-wing weekend warrior, so I envy the two of you. 😎 😝
