Map barriers for 6x4 mats

By Seblys, in Star Wars: Legion

I'm hoping the collective power of the internet will be able to help me here. A couple of months ago I saw a product for people using 6x4 mats.

The product was simple and something easily doable from getting some MDF cut or similar but the lazy person inside my head just wants to buy the product and not put in any effort. :)

The product came with two barriers that you put on both long edges of your mat to basically take up that extra 1 foot turning your 6x4 mat into a 6 x 3 mat. Does anyone know the product I'm talking about or was I having a fever dream when I saw this?

I can't find anything like it using google.

This sounds interesting. Following along.

There are sidebars for sale on the Fifth Trooper blog page. I think they might be what you're after.

Is 6' x 3' really all that important? I played a game where the board was 6' x 3'-9". We just made the deployment zones a bit deeper to use up the extra 4 1/2" on each side and it worked fine. I suppose it depends on the width of your table and if you need the space to lay out your cards and such.

in casual play everything is allowed but in tournaments (especially official ones) rules need to be followed. But many gamers have 4x6 maps for other systems and having an easy fix to use them with legion is really handy. Currently most tournaments I see just put some tape on both sides but that can stress the print.

Yes, because panicking off the table is a thing.

Thanks very much for that.

I knew the people would deliver!

Ah, they don't ship to Australia :(

update word

Painters tape works just fine. Measure 6" in from each side and tape across the long edges. Best part of this is that it stays put game after game (even if you roll up your mat for storage)!

Ah, yeah, didn't realize you were from Australia. They have said before that if you can get a big group order together they can work something out; not sure if that's something that would work for you.

Yes, because panicking off the table is a thing.

But if both sides still have equal sides along the smaller table it wouldnt make the game unfair. I play on a 6' x less than 3' board all the time and as long as both players know its a bit smaller and its a casual game its not a problem

Why don't you get a roll of painter's tape and just put down your barrier. This game and the cards, tokens, etc is super annoying that way as it is. You could even use the tape to set up your ever-changing deployment zone and then pull it off after deployment.

Two 6" strips of black felt would do the trick too. Use it to position cards etc

My go to is masking/painter's tape. Works just fine, doesn't slip, and is considerably less expensive than buying dedicated side boards.
