So Kaz's ability only works vs. Primary attacks when defending... he's gonna love Mag-Pulses.

It works when defending against any attack. The ability says āwhile you (defend) or (perform a primary attack)ā. It does not say ādefend against a primary attackā.
Since the expansion is already in some people's hands, we know the remaining pilot is an I2 generic, if anyone hasn't heard yet.
For sheer quotability, Jarek's my man.

I hadn't looked that closely at the reveal image recently, to be honest, so I forgot.
This really just doesnāt speak to me. Iām sure someone will find a way to make it useful, but to me itās a torrent with slam for an extra point and a different dial. And I like the torrent dial better for formation flying knife-fighters.
Ok, I have no Resistance ships (been in love with Republic lately), but I kind of want to pick this up just for that Epic free-for-all scenario where the ship regens after being destroyed. Seems like that'd be a fun way to spend an hour - I suppose it's too much to hope that there's an illicit slot so we can also use DMS?
R4, choose damaged engine. Credit to a guy named Paul on Discord, it blew my mind.

Good semantic explanation.

It comes with an illicit card so I assume it does?

Slots are released. [Talent], Astromech, Missile, Illicit, Mod, Mod, Title.

I think it's a good design, though.
This, on paper, is a lot like a TIE or Vulture or Z-95 or Torrent. However, it's going to work in a really different way. I like that there are a lot of flavors of these kinds of fighters. Not every player is going to like every flavor, but there's a lot of variety.

I'm the same. I have the Resistance, but I'm not in a rush to grab this. I like the new Astromech for other ships, so I'll grab one at some point. But it can wait. Way too excited for the Vonreg.

Completely fair. I donāt think Ffg has to make each ship fit my ideas. Itās just not one Iām excited for and that feels weird to me because Iāve made every other new release feel exciting in some way.
Potentially amusing for Aces High... self-detonation to deny opponents bounty points? š
Been talked about elsewhere but I could see a world where you might slot one of these guys in and create a 4a+Fireball or 3a + 2 Fireballs.

What would a bunch of these being run as generics look like? I'm not saying this is a good idea, just a curious thought. R5 astros seem like they work with the ability, so you can turn your starting card back down to use again later, but is that even useful? I guess R4 is available to fix their blues. Hyperfuel maybe.
Seems more likely it might get thrown in as filler in a list with room that wants an RZ2 blocker but can't afford one?
I like the Fireball, but I'm sure I don't know where it sits in lists yet.
I think Kazuda has a role as a 3 red/ 3 green flanker/bait. For 42 points (same cost as an I1 T-70) you get an I4, hypermobile 3 red dice attack with 3 agility, and you know what your face down crit is. Against low init ships he is a cheap pocket ace and can ruin someone's day. Against aces he is either a legitimate flanking threat or a blocker you can put anywhere you want.
Maybe this has already been answered, but I am scratching my head a little over the second part of R1-J5's ability about repairing a damage card again.
Does this mean, I repair a ship crit normally with an action, then if I flip that card face up again for the explosion with wings ability, I can repair it immediately with a R1-J5 charge instead of spending a action?
Or, I repair the crit (turn it face down) then spend a charge to remove the damage card from the ship?

I agree @Darth Meanie , they got the tag line on this one to pull some older, errr, wiser mates in. As I do have a few T-70s and RZAs... maybe they'll just have bated me to release some jack on Jerek.
Well played FFG, well played.
...maybe too much tea?

It means you can remove it entirely. Which is what repairing a face down card does. It's an amazing ability especially on a ship which will frequently be able to guarantee having a face up card to trigger it.

What I think it means is that after you repair a crit (flip it) you can repair the card as a non-crit (discard it) by expending a charge

If you spend the charge for Bucket's ability after you repair the ship card through it's normal action/effect or some other method, you completely remove that damage card after turning it face-down.
