Equipment

By LankyOgre, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, I’ve recently picked up the SW RPG and started looking at playing. Equipment is somewhat scattered across a number of different books, though there are some awesome fan created resources available. Is there equipment that you usually make sure you pick up? Is there any generic equipment that most PCs should pick up? Are there any items buried in books that are super useful that need mentioned?
Right now I’m playing a soldier type, so after armor and weapon, I’m not sure what to grab. But I’m also wondering more in general. I’ve played a lot of D&D, with its granularity, but then it’s more fantasy. I‘Veplayed Fate and more narrative when it’s just assumed you have stuff to do your job.

Comlink, utility belt, armor, weapon. tools for your character concept.

If you don't have the option to go for +1k credits due to too high obligation for example I found that the 500 credits at start usally go to:

Heavy Clothing
Blaster Pistol
Commlink
Extra Reload or Stim Pack

I’m more focused on the second 1000 credits. Like after you have your basic armor and weapons covered. Do you just start saving for mods? Or is there some piece of kit that you find useful?

like an ever burning torch in D&D/Pathfinder. You rarely can start with it, but pick it up when you can.

That is wholly personal preference.

I would pick up a backpack, tent, fusion lantern. Obviously as a soldier you will be fighting, but how you do it is your personal style. Are you going to be doing a lot of bluffing your way in and shooting your way out? Distance killing? Explosives expert? Want to focus on heavy weaponry? Vehicle gunnery?

Find your style of soldier and pick gear and equipment that will help you achieve your style.

Also pick up the Gear and Gadgets book if you really want a large plethora of gear to use. Or there are a few fan made gear collections in PDF form.

Mmmkay. So it is that open? Wasn’t sure how much other biases were coming in. Thanks for the assistance. Thinking the Jayne Cobb, up front “fighter.” But also a more general question about the system as a whole as well. I know a lot might depend on the adventures being told as well.

No matter what, get yourself a utility belt (or Jedi utility belt if you're a Force user).

For the first 1000 credits:

  • Light source (Glow Stick or Fusion Lantern or Scanner Goggles)
  • Gear that reduces Encumbrance (Backpack or Utility Belt)
  • Better and/or more weapons
  • Items a character should have: a soldier on a field campaign needs a tent and depending on the environment other survival gear, a mechanic on a ship needs tools and everyone that can get hold of a datapad probably owns one
  • More consumables: reloads, ration packs, and stim packs/emergency repair patch for droids

Thanks for the help. Awesome response.

Jayne wants reloads.

Military belt pouch found in Dangerous Covenants. Holds 2 Enc 0 items and allows them to be drawn as an incidental. Perfect for Stimpacks.
