Ummmmmmm... Jar Jar is coming back?

By JJH_BATMAN, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Ummmm so apparently it is rumored Jar Jar is going to be in the Kenobi Disney+ series... With a beard... I never thought this would be a sentence I would ever have to say/type.

This is the original source I think - https://makingstarwars.net/2020/01/rumor-jar-jar-binks-to-return-in-star-wars-kenob i

I really really really really hope he's the main villain. #jarjarisasithlord

I saw that but they don’t have more than one source so I have not yet sold my Disney stock.

In my own head Canon Jar Jar died when he was a guest of the Organa’s as Grand Moff Tarkin demonstrated the capabilities of the Death Star for the galaxy at large.

I can understand why they would choose to have him back for an episode or two, but I certainly hope he's not main character. And hopefully they've had him modify his speech pattern after being around non-Gungans more.

Wait ... Binks or Abrams?

Dark Times.

If he is a main character it is an opportunity to show growth. Also could be an opportunity to bring in Darth Binks.

Could actually be pretty cool character arc if they play him as a more matured Gungan rather than the younger, foolish one that he was in Ep 1. Him coming to terms with the collapse of the Republic and rise of the Empire, and his hand in the ascension of Emperor Palpatine could weigh very heavily on him. Ep 2 had him a bit more level headed if still gullible (many were blind to the threat in front of them), and there was a cut scene were Papa Palp mocked Jar Jar for being fooled in Ep. 3. Star Wars: Aftermath: Empire's End has people hating on him after RotJ due to his part in assisting Palpatine.

You can? One of the most reviled Star Wars characters? While Disney is at a crossroads with the fanbase and having just released a movie for all intents and purposes was not as successful at the box office as they were hoping for.

Yeah, no way they ever have Jar Jar in anything. Not even a Lego Cartoon.

He's not a great character in the movies. Most of The Clone Wars episodes with him were rough, but at times almost made him bearable.

Still, I think if you're going to have a follow-up to the prequel era with a major character from that era, it makes sense that we check in from other characters from that era. I think anyone who grew up with the prequels and watching the series is likely going to wonder why he wasn't included (I'm not one of those individuals but I think that argument can be made). I'm willing to give the character a chance to see where his growth has gone.

Overall, my expectation is that a Jar Jar seen in new media has to be a very changed character, for exactly the reasons most people don't want to see him at all. Change in him will make sense. He was tricked by someone he thought he was an ally. He personally saw some of the worst of war, though not in a direct a fashion as the soldiers fighting it. If he comes back exactly as he was, then I will think it was a bad choice. I'll wait to actually see it before passing judgement.

If he's in it, likely because he's with Bail Organa on a trip to check up on obiwan.

If he's still the senator to Naboo, no suspicions arise if he's traveling with Bail.

Disney could show him getting killed or dying. That's some service.

Not even surprised anymore

Iirc, he wasn't Naboo's senator but a member of a sub house of the Senate representing the Gungans.

In legends, he became the Naboo senator after Padme's death.

In canon, in the Legends of Luke Skywalker, someone refers to him as senator, though this was some time after the fall of the empire. This same person also says he was also Darth Vader, so that further puts into question this individual's perspective.
