Looking at SFC and how I personally have had success with it in this weeks AMM.
AMM, SFC
Personally I think the SFC is more useful in a zoning role. Use it to funnel bombers and bait fighters into kill boxes. Likewise I find that a good SFC adds to a larger squadron group. Especially when used defensively.
For example my new Imperial Ball:
4 TIE Fighter Squadrons (32 points)
2 JumpMaster 5000s (24 points)
3 TIE Bomber Squadrons (27 points)
Gamma Squadron (10 points)
Tempest Squadron (13 points)
1 TIE Advanced Squadron (12 points)
= 118 total squadron cost
The Advanced, Bombers and JumpMasters are the offensive arm while the Fighters cover my ships. Thus I think of it more as two fighter groups, one SFC of four genaric Tie Fighters and the other larger SFC of the bombers, intel, and escort.
