Intimidating Rebels - Extended & Hyperspace ideas.

By Schanez, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I was tinkering with an idea for a list and would like to hear, what others think about it. Since we are fresh after a point change and the whole Hyperspace overhaul, I included one for each Hyper and Ext. While I think the Hyerspace list has some potential, I still find the Extended one to be the top dog in this archetype, due to having two blockers. I have been thinking for a second Intimidation carrier within Rebels, the first being of course Arvel. And after some thought, here is what I came up with:

Hyperspace 200/200

  1. Braylen Stram (B-Wing): Ion Cannon, Autoblasters, Stab-Foils;
  2. "Dutch" Vander (Y-Wing): Ion Cannon Turret, R4 Astromech;
  3. Garven Dreis (X-Wing): Servo-Foils;
  4. Arvel Crynyd (A-Wing): Mag-Pulse Warheads, Intimidation;

Extended 199/200

  1. Braylen Stramm (B-Wing): Jamming Beam, Autoblasters, Stab-Foils;
  2. "Dutch" Vander (Y-Wing): Dorsal Turret, Veteran Turret Gunner, R4 Astromech;
  3. Arvel Crynyd (A-Wing): Intimidation, Predator;
  4. Sabine Wren (Attack Shuttle): Intimidation, Dorsal Turret, "Zeb" Orelios;

The first wants to use Arvel to block and setup ships for damage from the rest of the squad. First engagement can be used to focus an Ace and force Ion Tokens on them with the Ion Cannon Turret and Cannon. Arvel can force Deplete and Jam with the Warheads to cripple an Ace and either force them into blue maneuvers or make them risk being less dangerous next round. "Dutch" can gift locks to Braylen, regardless of if the later is stressed or not. Garven can pass a Focus Token to allow someone to have double mods. If Braylen uses Focus>Roll he has the potential to have double mods on both attacks,having Lock from "Dutch" and second Focus from Garven.

The second idea is focusing on two very mobile blockers, each with Intimidation and able to shoot at Rage 0. "Dutch" and Braylen are to tag along behind them offering a massive double tap volley from each ship. Sabine has turret to allow her approaching from odd angles and extending her on target time. She also has the potential to perform a Roll > Evade, then move to drop stress and then perform her action, making her more sturdy, than the two dice would suggest. Arvel lost Warheads for the sake of Predator, as I feel he benefits more from the potential reroll. "Dutch" and Braylen want to just go straight at'em and do pew pew pew with all they have. B-Wing wants to aim his bullseye for best Autoblasters performance, but other than that, mostly straightforward approach.

What do you guys think?

I think you could give heff tobber a shot on your second list instead of Sabine, being medium base and having a hard stop makes it a much better blocker and one that can make sure to block again after an ion goes in. Also, double mods

I've made a thread about the archetype that has been updated not too long ago, might want to read it, it's called "Rebel Intimidation Block"

I have read that thread a while ago indeed. It contains lots of constructive brainstorming.

I think what throws me off about the U-Wing is how lacking in terms of reposition it is. Coming from an so far purely Imperial player, it might sound strange, but I really like Rolls and Boosts. Sabine in Attack Shuttle is more or less a Rebel version of Duchess, just overall better in my opinion. While "Duchess" can engage the 135 degree swooping turn, Sabine can perform a similar maneuver without burning an Afterburners charge or even go out with a wide 180 swoop behind the enemy. Her blocking potential is just one of the things, that make her useful. Same health, but with access to one Shield, a Crew slot against a Gunner slot, ability to equip a turret for more arcs coverage. Not to mention the Roll > Evade before the maneuver is even performed. The more I think about her, the more I like the pilot. The only thing holding her back from being an absolute beast, is the I3 she has. She would be a killer Ace to fly. As she is now, Intimidation and "Zeb" sound like a decent enough build.

If only FFG released a second edition Attack Shuttle expansion set :(
